    Make it fast!

It's to difficult to keep my tail onder controll!
    Make it fast!
What's your opinion? shutter time error? or does it show the dog's state of mind?

I'm not one to call that shutter time "error." That is what you are supposed to show when taking pictures of dogs. Tail up and blurred is a happy dog. Tail down and still is menacing, Tail down and tucked is afraid.

I notice some blurring of the muzzle, also. I can't tell if that is movement or DOF. I think it is DOF, as the eyes are sharp.

    Nice shot.

    Hi Jandiep,

I think it would be fine if it were just the tail blurred, but unfortunately his head has moved too.

1/50s was a little slow for such a shot.

Certainly the camera was held steady enough, the rest is nice and sharp.

    Cheers,

    Hi Jandiep

I have to agree with Dave here - the head needs to be sharp. You may be able to do some PS work on it - too late tonight for me!

I see that you used F14 @ 1/50th & 400 ISO. You would have done better to open the apperture up and increase the shutter speed. You don't require a big DOF here, especially with the lack of detail in the snowy background.

A potentially a good shot unfortunalely spoiled by the dog's head movement.

Just my personal view, you're nearly there.

    Regards

    Rob

    Hi Rob and Dave,

After Dave's comment I noticed the same issue in the other pictures of the serie I made.
I wasn't aware of the head movement during the shots.
Thanks for your comments, Lesson learned.

    Regards, Jan

As Dave noticed, it's due to head movement. I used a Canon EF 28-135mm IS. The IS helped to get the rest sharp.

    Thans for your comment

    Hi Jan

This looks very much like a Boxer - great dogs! - but I'm just wondering
why his tail is (or, appears to be) so long?

    And yes, nice shot.

    cheers

In the Netherlands it's not allowed anymore to crop the dog's ears or tail. You're not allowed to show a dog with cropped ears/shortened tail on any dog shows. So all official breeders do crop/shorten the tail.

This is our second Boxer, I would not have an other breed.

    kind regards,
    Jan
