Found this guy up about 45 maybe 50 ft. shot a couple pics and hightailed it, was worried bigger might be hanging around.

That's awesome. You needn't have worried. Black bears aren't nearly as protective of the little ones as their larger brown cousins.

Mommy Daddy Uncle fester, I don't know, but usually the black bears I see don't really take an interest in me. This one did and it scared me.

Concealed carry permits make you alot braver............ I never hit the woods without a side arm.

I guess for a bear .45 or bigger? or a firecracker or air horn might do the trick. Usually the bears see me an go about there business this one kinda circled around me... I don't know maybe it was nothing . I might have smelled like my dog or a salami sandwich.lol

James, nice image in your OP. Bears scare the crap out of me. Especially since the time years ago when I was camping by myself in the mountains and a bear came up to my tent at night and pressed its nose against my arm. I had a choice to either lay there and hope it did nothing, or to take some action just in case. I opted to give it an elbow to the face. That sent it running away, but I stayed up all night with a fire and jetted out of there at sunrise, lol! Ever since then, I have had a phobia of bears which makes it difficult for me to be in the forest or camp. Tragic.

Lol Mat the old elbow smash to the snoot never even crossed my mind. Well I grew up hunting and when your carrying a high power or shotgun, you just never even think about fearing them. I guess I coulda smacked it in the snoot with my 50D.
