- Always shoot with the sun behind you



... Yeah right!

Off topic- this is my third favourite landscape shot from colin. The first is "complicated sunset" and second is "Haulashore Island - Revisited".

That's why I tell hobbyist and beginner photographers to really sit down and ask yourself "Is it really really necessary" to have certain gear (or accessories) for your type of photography. Some items one will definitely need while others one can easily live without and/or find a way to compensate. Imagination is the most powerful and priceless tool in your photographic arsenal.

They're not necessarily essential, but they can make the job easier. At a minimum having a tripod with some kind of panning ability is very handy, although you may have to spend more time leveling it etc compared with a panning head on top of a ball head.
