    Deception Pass

I know the long exposure is not for all of you, but I enjoy it. Here are a couple between birds and Otters today. C&C welcome.

I see now I have a halo, it is not in the larger version and I am to tired to worry over it tonight.

I do like the otter better but as you know I am landscape handicapped.

But... I do like these shots.

What I particularly like is the light. The way the sunlight is playing on the rocks and in the first of these two, on the seaweed right at the bottom of the frame, is gorgeous. That just gives it a 'lift', in my opinion.

On the other hand, I being "animal handicapped", find that first image just stunning. The subdued light, with the slight blurring of both clouds and surf , give it a sense of mystery that absolutely works for me. And I'd also take a shot at a B&W conversion, turning the blue sky patches really dark. Not certain how that would impact that lovely light, though.

I really like the first one. The long exposure creates a mood in the water that very nicely complements the light. Consider cropping at the top to eliminate the dark blue area in the middle of the sky. Doing so helps the bright light at the horizon draw the viewer all of the way into the scene.

    Again, very nice!

I love them both. And the long exposure doesn't bother me at all in this scene. I agree that the light really makes all the difference. Brave guy to get so close to water with your gear.

    Thank you, James and Shane.

I had another play with this image...looking to adjust for a couple slight issues. This is what I have come up with. So in comparison...which do you prefer and why?

    Re: Deception Pass

Hi Paul. I like this image a lot!

Answering your question, I prefer the second version, due to:

1 - Center part of the horizon is more detailed (it looks a bit blown/overexposed on the first/original version).
    2 - Halos controlled.

Well done and thanks for sharing. Cheers...

Thank you, Otavio. Those were the issues I wanted to work on. Also to bring out just a touch more of the color.

    Thanks, John.

Great set Paul. Used to go over deception pass once a week for a year making deliveries on the island.

Thanks, Jack. It is one of my favorite areas. This spot in particular was my late wifes favorite spots. We even had our wedding reception not 50ft from where these images were made.
