    Roseate Spoonbills

I captured these today at Circle B Bar Nature Reserve. Spoonbills are one of my favorite birds to photograph. They are colorful, graceful, and entertaining to watch. They feed by swinging their bills side to side in the water. Sensors inside the bill tell them when prey ( normally shrimp which gives them the rose color ) has entered the bill. Today they were feeding closer to the trail than I have ever seen them. Most likely because the water is getting low in the marsh and the fish and shrimp are getting concentrated in the flooded areas. C&C welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

Great series Joe. I like #8 for the transparency look to the wings and the colour. All are wonderful as usual.

Thank you Mark, you comment is very much appreciated. I would be interested in seeing what your spoonbills look like if you have any images.

Thanks Terri, they are one of our most colorful birds. The color comes from eating shrimp, the more shrimp the deeper the color.

Another great series and I learnt a bit about their feeding methods too.

I can see why they're your favorite Joe - gotta love how the light shines right through those primary feathers.

    Well done,

    Well done,
Thanks Dave, very much appreciated. These birds are so beautiful in flight, colorful and agile. I have yet to capture several in flight together, a goal to work on.
