The Dive (which crop is better)

I had this Surf Scoter in view and was waiting for him to dive and when he did I knew I was late as always (like when trying to catch a Grebe diving) but when I looked I liked the result. Question is which crop works better, there is also more space available I didn't have to crop it so close? Any C&C welcome.

What a great shot and I love it when you get a result you weren't quite expecting but are pleased anyway - in fact sometimes they're the best shots. But to answer your question, I like the larger photo as you get the movement of the water which compliments the dive.

But I would also like to see a wider 5 x 4 ratio crop before deciding.

Nice shot, Roger. I wouldn't crop too tight, though. I would like to see the full splash in the frame to keep the sense of action.

I would go for something like this.

The Dive (which crop is better)

Leaving plenty of splash behind the bird, and sufficient water ahead for it to 'swim towards'.
