I'm not finding the first one very interesting. The animal is too far away and facing away from the camera (or rather more away than towards). This would be OK if he was set in a stunning surrounding but the view isn't that interesting either.

Shots two and three are great. I especially like three. I know the tree obscures the antlers slightly but I think it adds context/interest.

I like the third best as well James, certainly looks like he spotted you and was at the ready.

    Lovely shots.

About #1, it might look better if some of the space behind it is taken out. The shrub behind him is competing for attention. I do like that far off treeline. Very nice.

I like 2 & 3 as well. The pose in #3 is great and even though some might say the light is harsh, I kind of like the contrast of the shiny coat against the shady side.

    Hi James,

I prefer #2, but if mine I'd clone out the sharp grass heads poking up above his back.

I can't decide whether the thread title is good or corny

    Good shooting,

Thanks for the input all. The thread title was meant to be kinda corny in a 70s western movie kinda way. the contrast in 3 appealed to me, one reason I really liked the shot. The light was kinda harsh, the sun had just cleared a ridge and the only soft light up in the mtns is cloudy or through the trees it seems. I bought an nd filter but havent got comfy with it( I really dont know if it will work for that either) alas seems like most of what I photograph is in the harsh light.
