If it really does sell at that price of about $1150 for the body, I wouldn't be at all interested. Last week I bought the D5100 new for $500. The D7000 is available new for $1000.

I am a bit tempted; it gives many of the D7000 benefits with a vari-angle LCD screen, which I would not be without

Of course, if I did get a D5200, and then the D7100 came out with a vari-angle LCD screen too, I'd be upset

Guess that means I shouldn't rush.

I'd like 1/8000s really and the D5200 stops at 1/4000s, what I have now - and sometimes wish was faster, for wildlife.

I suspect that is probably the way they will go. Moving 4 buttons on the back will not be impossible for them. Expect the same 24.1Mp sensor as on the D5200. Pricing at around $1600 - I would guess.

Let's wait and see, should not be long now.

Not a Nikon shooter, so not directly interested. But if Nikon is bringing out this new stuff, it will leave the venerable Canon 60D / 7D cameras looking a bit weak. Wonder when and how Canon will respond?

I agree with you Dave, you shouldn't rush. The D7000 update should be very interesting and I have been thinking about what to do. Go D600 (FX) or stay at DX. For my lenses it wouldn't matter much, but TBH I found some advantages in DX.
A follow-up to the D300 might be interesting as well, although in terms of size the D7000 is just right for me.

    Dear Peter,

I used a D300 for years and now a D800. In my family we also have a D5000 and a D7000, and I tested the D600. Based on my personal experience, and comparing the specs/price of the D5200 vs D7000 and D600 vs D800. I would suggest to wait for the possible D7100 or the follow-up of the D300 (assuming there will be a follow-up) if you want to stay in DX, or move directly to D800 for FX. The price difference between D600/D800 is marginal with respect the real difference of the cameras.

    Cheers
    Andrea
