Something or Nothing??
I think I need to just walk away from these two shots. I keep working them and re-working them trying to get to that picture in my head and I cannot get it there. The sky is too dark...the logs are not quite right...absolutely hated these in color. Maybe I need to leave them alone for a couple days and then re-visit?
C&C welcome

Called a brain block. Happens to me more often then not. Usually in a couple of days a new vision comes up.

Hi there,
Not that I'm fully versed in PP, however, can't you pick up the sky only and lighten it a bit?
The tone and texture of the foreground is fabulous :-)

Re: Something or Nothing??
Hi,
I'm not a professional by a long shot & can't see the picture in your head but as i was scrolling downwards, I noticed that I preferred less sky in #1 picture;( arnd the area where the darker part starts turning lighter & removing the darkest part of the sky. Then the logs looked a little more stronger( not sure if that is the term I really want to use) to my eye.
Other wise I like the first best, something about maybe a bit too much light shining on the second picture of logs.
Likely you have already done all this blah blah I'm saying.

Diane said it all. No not quite - I think some of the logs need to be lifted a little bit, don't get me wrong not physically but with a few brighter tones not to much. (photo 1)

I'd go along with the thoughts expressed so far.
Don't know what PP software you're using. If you were using Silver Efex Pro, I'd say pack a lot of structure into the logs via a control point. With other software, I'd say crank up Local Contrast Enhancement (LCE) on a new layer. Then put on a layer mask and paint back just to let the LCE come though on the logs.

Re: Something or Nothing??
Thanks to all of you that commented. I will re-visit these in a few days, I think I am tired of looking at them or I am just not in the mood to do anything. I have a very long ways to go with my PP skills (or lack there of), but your comments have helped me get an idea of how to make the picture in my head possibly work out. I will post results if it works, or I will re-shoot this weekend and start from scratch.

Re: Something or Nothing??
Jon, for me I wonder about the minimal amount of sea to the horizon in both pics. Possibly should have been more or less ?
