The Vale of Clwyd
Hi folks,
I'm back up in North Wales for the weekend, there was a great sky tonight and managed to grab a few shots. Here's the pick of the bunch I think...
C&C much appreciated.
Nikon D90 | Nikon 18.0-105.0 mm f/3.5-5.6 @ 28mm | f/11 | 1/20 sec | ISO 200
Thanks for viewing

Re: The Vale of Clwyd
A great shot by all means Tommy. If I were to try to think of anything that might be offered as an alternate, I'd consider a 16:9 ratio to provide more of a 'landscape' view. A super capture just the way it is though!

Re: The Vale of Clwyd
Wow! Thanks everyone for your comments, and so quick too!
I'll play around with some other crops, I am liking the 16:9 ratio though, great suggestion Frank
The new ACR with PS CS6 is amazing. The new controls and the control that they give you is amazing. I am using the trial version, but am seriously considering upgrading. I urge you all to try it out. Having said that, I didn't do masses with this image and tried to process it to mirror the scene that I saw when I clicked the shutter button.
Thanks again for your kind words. Means a lot

Re: The Vale of Clwyd
That is a beautiful image, but I have to tell you that it's not the sky that really attracts me. The landscape is absolutely beautiful! And that sky helps direct my eye into it.

Re: The Vale of Clwyd
Excellent work, Tommy. My compliments.
Like Terri, I find the light on the land captivating. But moreso because of your composition. That sweep of the hill down from in front of us and from the right, down into the valley and across the bottom to the rise beyond, is majestic. And the light on that rolling slope coming in from the left in the middle ground - sublime.
Okay - the land was shaped like that before you got there. But the photographer's skill is in seeing the shape of the land and using that to make the image. I think this image shows that superbly well.

Re: The Vale of Clwyd
Everything is wonderful, the landscape, the light, the impressive sky, the composition... everything. But the whole result Tommy is more than that.
I don't have any particular suggestions to offer, just play with various cropping and some dodges to highlight some colorful areas more to see if anything could work better.

Re: The Vale of Clwyd
Thank you all so much for your kind comments.
I have been to this location several times to try to get a decent image and each time I am drawn to the same composition. It's nice to hear that you all like that in one way or another. It kind of confirms that I am doing something right, sometimes!
It's such a massive view, it's difficult to capture the grandness of it. Glad you like my image though, it means a lot :-)

Re: The Vale of Clwyd
Thanks Nicola :-)
I thought I'd share this as I found it quite amusing... ...I just posted this photo to my Facebook and my sister commented to say, "Wow Tommy, awesome photo! I'm very jealous of your camera!"
I feel like replying, "Thanks! It is an awesome camera, it gets up all on its own and takes great photos! The artistic vision and photographic skill that it possesses is precisely why I bought it. It takes all the skill out of the hobby!"
But I decided against it!

LOL!
I saw an absolutely awesome home the other day so I asked the owner what make and model hammer he used to build it. If I had that expensive hammer, I bet I could build a house just like his!

The analogy I use when making the point to groups of 'mature' (mainly female) people to whom I've given presentations is, "Your cooker/oven makes lovely food."
