    New Years at the Needle.

So I headed out 2hrs early only to find thousands of people already swarmed on the spots I had in mind. So I headed to the other side of the hill and yes more people. I found a spot to park some 6-7 blocks away and made my way down the hill to find a small spot between some trees. Did the best I could with a nearly doomed situation. Hope you enjoy my first images of 2012!

    Hi Paul,
    Happy New Year to you.
Certainly not a 'doomed situation' pictures No. 2, 4 & 5 are IMO fabulous.
Well done, a great start to 2012.

Thanks guys, the "doomed situation" actually worked in my favor. As my regular areas where over run, I scurried to find this spot....which happened to be up-wind. Everyone filling the go-to spots were shooting through the haze of smoke.

Donald, I am with you....that is one of my favorites as well and for the same reason.

I like #2 best, Paul. I've taken and seen a lot of fireworks photos over the years, but the composition in this one with the Seattle Needle Tower in the midst of the pyrotechnics display is one of the best ever! Well done, Paul.

Paul, I agree with Frank, #2 is the best for me also. I like the color and the sharpness of it.

I think those are the best fireworks shots I've seen. Terrific way to start the year

I really like your set of images... IMO, too many fireworks images show only the fireworks against the sky. These images including the needle are great!

Re: New Years at the Needle.

Thank you for all the comments guys. I had a good time trying to time things and not miss out on the next round, while trying to vary my exposure times to catch some movement and capture some more static. Happy they are so well received. The whole deal lasted only 8min and I came away with about 40 shots of which I really like at least 10.

Great images Paul, those are beautiful. I don't get to even watch the news and see Seattle's fireworks. All we get is some prerecorded stuff from the east coast.
