Was across the pond and originally thought (from the distance) that they were rocks sticking up, but later, when I noticed the rocks moving... I was quick to realize they weren't. All Manual except the focus.. First time shooting like that... zoomed in all the way on a 70-300mm lens.

What shutter speed and aperture, Joie? And were you handheld or tripod? You seem to have been struggling to get sharp focus with some of these. So I wonder if your shutter speed in particular was a little slow for the conditions.
