Hello Byron and welcome to CiC.
As it says on the banner at the top, CiC is very much about learning. So, I hope you do quickly find that you have found the right forum to be a part of. Both the tutorials and the forum are there for people to use to develop their knowledge and skills. On here you will find lots of people more than willing to share their experience.
On the subject of white balance, I'd suggest starting with the tutorial here and then come back in here to the forum with any other questions you have.
By the way and if you wish, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hi to all, I am David Reid. I live in Richmond, Virginia, in the U.S.A. Over the last few years, I have become an aspiring writer of nonfiction. A few months ago it came to my attention that I really needed to have high quality images to go with my stories. In other words, taking potshots with a pocket camera isn’t going to make the grade. Once I made the commitment to learn how to take better pictures, I discovered that I truly love photography and want to pursue it in greater depth. I recently purchased both a Nikon AW100 and a Nikon D5100 and I have been striving in earnest to learn how to best use each of them. I have to confess that I am having difficulty embracing the DSLR as it doesn’t fit in my pocket and I haven’t devised a good way of shooting it while riding a motorcycle...but I’m working on it. I also want to learn how to take beautiful landscape photographs. My writing is mainly about motorcycle travel and I am seeking to capture images that will make my stories all the more real for my readers. I ran across CIC and was spellbound by the stunning images that grace this website. My own work is a bit crude by the standards that I am seeing here, but perhaps if I hang around for a while I can class it up a bit. https://picasaweb.google.com/1074496...42011Favorites

Hello, my name is Frank and I am from Utah in the U.S.A. I have a Nikon D7000 with a Tamron 18-270mm and a Tokina 11-16mm as my “carry around” lens. Right now, my equipment far outstrips my knowledge to use it. I stumbled onto your site while looking for information on what to look for in a new PC that will allow me to work with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom3, and, found informative and helpful discussions on many aspects of photography. Still not sure about a PC yet.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Great to have you heard David. Pretty much everyone here not only love photography, but also really enjoy helping others get better at their photography so you're in good company. My wife was lucky enough to receive a D5100 for her Christmas present and although she initially struggled with it, really loves her camera now.
I can see where you'd struggle to use it while on your motorbike - especially up a mountain at 50mph! But photography is about the person behind the camera, not the equipment used to capture the moment. I look forward to seeing some more of your photos and reading a bit of your writing.

It's always nice to come a across another D7000 shooter. I have to say that I'm envious of you having a wide angle lens - my budget has quite stretched that far yet.
We have a number of people that are well versed in CS5 and Lightroom so you're in good company if you're looking for assistance and advice. Make sure you post some examples of your work. We're a friendly bunch here and we all really enjoy helping everyone getting the most out of their photography.
On a side note, if you could update your profile with your location, it would help us all out as we're all from different parts of the world.

Hi , I am new here , my name is Charles. I started photography while studying to be a pharmacist back in 1979 in Greece. I dont like color , which I find confusing :) I started with an Olympus OM4 with a 50 f1.4, and after many years and camera bodies , I stayed for a long time with my Nikon F4 and the 35-70 f2.8 80-200 f2.8 and 24 2.8 along with the 85 f1.8. I wish to all of you the best of luck and health for you and your family.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Welcome, Charles
I also find it more appealing to my sense of order to work with 10 tonal zones than a few million colors. Looking forward to see some of your images.
Kevin

Hey. Jacqui here. I'm from the USA. Mount Vernon, Ohio to be exact. I always wanted to take nice pictures but never made any effort to learn about photography. That changed after I had my daughter. I am a novice, and recently upgraded to a Nikon D5100 after a broken cybershot. Maybe one day I can take a class, but my daughter and school (biology) leave no time for that. I joined in hopes of being able to make inquiries and get feedback, and critiques of any photos I post. If anybody responds to these, how do I start a thread to ask questions?
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello from California. I'm an avid bird photographer using Canon 60D body with a 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM lens. I absolutely love what I'm doing and enjoy discussions of anything related to birding, cameras, lenses, and processing with Apple's Aperture.

Hello Jacqui and welcome to CiC.
First of all, I hope CiC can offer you as much if not more, than a class and that you don't miss not being able to sign up for one. This forum and the tutorials that go along with it, are very much about supporting people to learn.
And part of that is very much about asking questions. How do you do that?
- First of all click on 'Forum' from the menu bar and then select the one that seems most suitable; e.g. Digital Cameras & Equipment. Bit, to be honest, don't be too worried about that because no-one on here is going to bother if it's the 'wrong' section. People will still see the question.
- Then near the top left of the page there is a button 'Start New Thread' Just hit that
- Now you've got a window that you can put a title in and then type your question/message. And then just 'Submit', sit back an wait of the responses.
If you have any problems with this, just holler and we'll come running.
And to get images into your posts, if you want to ask for comment and criticism, then click here.
I hope you enjoy being part of CiC.

Hello
It would be great if you wanted to use your real name on here. Most of us do. You can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
I've got that lens as well, as do quite a few folk on here. It's wonderful isn't it.
Anyway, welcome to CiC. I hope you enjoy being part of teh forum and that as well as you learning and benefiting from being part of the site, that you will share your knowledge and experience for the benefit of others. Because it's all about sharing and helping each other grow and develop.

Welcome Arthur. Great to have you here.
There are quite a few enthusiastic night-time shooters on here with whom you'll be able to share experiences and learn from. I think you'll find this is a pretty infromal foum that packs a big punch so far as helping people learn and develop is concerned.
Hope you'll post up some of your images soon.

Velukho - I am very glad to hear that. That's what a lot of us have been here fro quite a long time. There is still nothing else to match it in terms of being focused on learning.
I hope you enjoy being part of the forum for a long time to come and I look forward to seeing some of your pictures being posted up.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
