Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Greetings to everyone here on the forum, and a big Thank you to all the people who have worked on in making such an exceptionally wonderful website :) I have been following this website for quite some time now and learned a lot. I am hoping some day i would be able to afford those big black machines and those pieces of glass, and would be able to put fully into practice what i have learned here.Till then i am happy playing with my modest Nikon D40 :)

Hello there. Welcome to CiC.
I hope you find that this is the forum that can help you learn how to use your cameras to its full potential. As well as teh tutorials you can get to from the menu bar up at the top, there are always people on here who are very willing to share their knowledge and skill. All you have to do is ask the questions.
As to how you take part in the forum> There are basically two ways: You can post a reply into an already existing thread, or you can start a new thread.
If you click on 'Forum' on the menu bar you'll get a list of all the various sections that make up the CiC forum. Click on any one of them and you'll then a get a list of all the threads in that section. Click on any one of them and you get a list oif all the posts in that thread.
Down near the bottom left of every thread page you'll see a button 'Reply to thread'. Hit that and you get a window into which you can type your message, just like you posted this introductory post.
If you want to start a new thread, click on one of the sections listed under 'Forum', Near the top of the screen you'll see a button '+ Post New Thread'. Click on that and you'll see a similar window into which you can type your post. But you'll also need to give your new thread a name. There's a window for that.
Don't worry about making mistakes. No-one worries about that around here.
And, once you feel more comfortable with using the forum and so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hello there and welcome to CiC. Glad that you like what you've seen so far.
It's always nice to be able to afford the nice new, high-spec gear. But, as we always remind people: -It's not the gear that makes great images, it's the person behind the camera. Just because it's now getting older (as is my Canon 40D) doesn't mean it's any less good that when it was first produced.
And ............You've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Hello, My name is Bob. I live near london having been born in the US. I've been sort of casually into photography for several years but now that we've moved to Europe, I'd like to improve my skills especially in composition.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi Folks!
I'm Jim, been doing photography for awhile now, yet consider myself a beginner because there is just so much to learn. After discovering Cambridge in Colour I felt this might just be the place to take me to the next (?) step, wherever that may be. I find this sight easier to understand than any I have yet seen. Originally from Monterey California I now reside in Reno NV. I love all forms of Photography and am looking forward to improving in each of those forms (time permitting) with the kind help of all of you. I am not a computer person!

There's a hint in your post that you do now own a camera, so what did you get?
And which branch of engineering are you studying?
Welcome to the CiC forums from ...
I don't remember many summers that hot. Sorry you couldn't have visited on a more pleasant day!
I ended up getting a Cannon Rebel T3i (600D) and I like it so far.
I'm studying materials engineering, but with a strong background in electrical.

Hello Bob. You are very welcome. And welcome also to this side of the pond!
I hope you find the forum an helpful resource in terms of learning and developing your knowledge and skills. There are certainly always plenty of people on here very willing to share experience and to complement the ideas set out in the tutorials.

Jim - We always hope that one of the strenghths of CiC is its simplicity. There's a set of tutorials and then there is this, uncomplicated, forum. And that's the way the site has been kept. That, I believe, better aids learning. And that (learning) is the first and primary reason for CiC's existence.
So, please do join in with questions, comments and, of course, some images for comment.

Hi! I am so glad to join this photography group and forum! I think I can learn from you and hopefully, anything I know, I can help you, too! I happen to be off of work today, so I am tinkering around and making waves in the photography world! I look forward to seeing what everyone else is doing and working on.

Dinah - Great have you on CiC. Welcome.
You've picked up on one the underpinning principles of the forum - sharing knowledge. That's what CiC is very much about - helping colleagues learn by sharing what we know and what skills we have.
Hope you enjoy being part of it.

Welcome Tammy. One of the best ways of using CiC to learn is to ask questions. That's what the foirum encourages. And there is no such thing as a dumb question on CiC.

I think all of us on CiC are in that situation. But that is one of the wonderful things about learning - it never does stop and there are always things out there to be discovered.
I hope you enjoy being part of CiC and that this forum helps on that journey of discovery
