More likely trying to get some feeling back in its foot, standing barefoot on ice can't be good for you ;)
EDIT; great minds, Suzanne, great minds ....
Definitely worth capturing the moment :)

We have a winter freeze watch for the pelicans in our area as many have nearly lost their feet to freezing weather. Over the last few years, a group of birders began training the pelicans to go to the steam plant where they have a warm water dump off pond. I suspect that poor duck was feeling the same kind of pain. Shouldn't he have gone south for the winter?
Not exactly "wildlife" as it was shot in a zoo, but still one of my favorite animal shots.

Jeff that is SWEET! :D I love it when a simple image (meaning comp here not technical) can portray such a forceful "story". PLUS the absract quality of it is very cool! :D
I totally got the heebie geebies just looking at that guy. I'll probably have dreams of gators chasing me tonight. LOL
Thanks Suzanne! Of my animal shots I've always considered it one of my best. It has such an eerie quality to it. After looking at it though I am coming to the opinion that I made it just a hair too bright. Here's a slightly darkened one that I like a little better but would be curious to know what anyone else thinks.

Details Details ;) lol
Wow what a small change. You know I almost like the original better because the darkened water makes it more clearly a gator. Does that make sense? And I like the ambiguity . . . BUT REALLY, I mean come on were spitting hairs here aren't we? :)
This one was taken this Spring. Although Gold Finches don't mate until mid to late Summer, this pair was in full pairing-off frenzy. The male has a seed in his beak, waiting for the female to catch up, so he can feed her.

This one is of a Hover Fly, sitting still, which you almost never see. That is a catnip leaf, which we raise here.

Thanks, Steve & Donald, for kind words :)
Oooh, to be among such greatness...I would like to see one of the Caiman's inbetween the two posted...the original is a bit too bright and the fix a tad too dark....and yes, it is always about splitting hairs.

Not a huge shooter of wildlife but here are a couple I am reasonably pleased with

Adrian - I'm not usually a fan of macro shots but you really make that one work! Very nice indeed :) (really like the lines in that picture)

This was a solitary Hyena wandering the roads of Kruger Park. It was truly sad to see it by itself, which hyenas never are. As it came closer, we noticed something lodged in its snout--maybe a claw that got stuck there during a fight. We assumed this was why it got cast off by the pack.
I then snapped this picture as it walked right by our car (which was a scary moment, with an open window :))
Wow steve S,
love your pix ! What is your setting for the hummingbirds?
I really like the green of the surrounding and feathers! Good capture!
