John, you captured expressions, movement and every thing else in a superb image.

George,
Here's the histogram of the finished edit, didn't change much from the original; however while shooting I relied on the highlights notification on LED, as soon as I controlled the blinkies I was satisfied with the settings. I used shutter speed only to get what I have here.

Great shot John. It'd be a little difficult to really level the background horizon when the top and bottom lines of the rink wall are not parallel. Just have to choose your preferred line I guess.
Also that background doesn't bother me. If you hadn't identified the skaters I could have assumed that Dima was actually Ted and he'd be the one charcoaled broiled if he was the one to make the few mistakes and lose the comp :)

Under the conditions I think that this is a really good shot. The sense of movement is there, facial expressions, whites are white. I am sure that if you could find these 2 again they would love a copy of this for themselves.

I think it's all a misunderstanding. I was wondering at what time the photographer in a situation like this, much white, would correct the exposure. In landscape photography by example he has the time to correct, the landscape won't change, is static. But in street photography you go for the moment. So in your case if your ec was 0 and you saw that after this shot, than this specific photo was heavily under exposed and the moment gone. You should have to correct the exposure and hoping for another moment to come.
That's why I say you where lucky, especial when this was the first shot.
I personal would have taken some test shots and correct the exposure. I probably would have missed an old ev correction too if the exposure was good. I only might have wondered why it's good.
Keep going on.
George

John, I almost missed those last two. Looks like you had a very successful time. Great shots. The last one is a beauty.

Hi Sergio,
Yes a very good time, nice to capture some isolated movements. Thanks for commenting.

Again at f/2, ISO 10000, 1/140sec. The skater was moving in and out of the light and at times her face would be bathed in different light sources. I kept bits of the crowd as they appeared as ghostly gawkers.

A lovely capture full of movement and life. Tells a great story. I would be overjoyed to make 'mistakes' such as this!
