Geoff, love #1 and #3...#3 is most unusual to me, as I had not seen anything like it before...Great work !
test via tynypic, just hangs in uploading....Please wait - trying via upload from computer under attachments seesm to put it up as a thumbnail - nothing else changed on computer from prior to win 10 its a pain
Interesting... can't imagine it is relevant but I'm using the 'pro' version of Windows 10.
And, just to check I upload by: -
1) post quick reply
2 Go Advanced not Click Here to Upload Photos from your Computer
3) Then, .... Click Here to Upload Photos from your Computer... Tiny pic should then open so:-
a) click on browse
b) find the image in file explorer
c) open
d) when image appears in Tinypic click on upload now
e) once tag is filled with the URL, copy this
4) return to the reply screen and click on a clear line
5) Click on the Insert Image Icon in the command line at the top of the message box.
6) Once the url window opens, then past the saved URL from Tinypix into the it.
7) Edit the URL reference that appears in the message text to remove the additional [IMG] at each end of the link.....
8) submit reply
and "'Bob's yer'uncle", as they say ;) Can't imagine you are doing anything different from me... but it's probably worth a check..
yep also 'pro' version and thats exactly how i did it previously
okay - it appears its a setting in Firefox somewhere then - just went to Chrome no problem
oh and this is a Hoverfly - Helophilus pendulus
http://i61.tinypic.com/27wvnfk.jpg
okay thats weird, just tried same again in Firefox - it works now
but hey its a nice Hoverfly
http://i61.tinypic.com/27wvnfk.jpg
But is it a male or female Helophilus, Mark? ;)
Good clarity and colour.
Geoff, its female i think :)
hmm just tried to upload another and back to the same problem as before.
and now in Chrome

Overripe apples seem attractive.

It is a nice bright species isn't it Mark. There seem to be a few more around this year but I never find them to be commonplace.
In the Spring, look out for the rare X. citrofasciatum. They should be found near the coast in your area. I have discovered a few here but nothing for the past couple of years.
Wasps are subjects which I keep attempting, Brian, but I find it difficult to get full face shots for a positive identification. I wonder if that is a German Wasp in your photo; going by what I can see of its face
Yep, really impressive beasties Geoff, I thought I had one a year ago in Dorset - well the lizard did :D - but it turns out it was not a Hover at all but a soldier fly Oxycera rara, this was in Abbotsbury Tropical Garden early September 2014

Good real life scene there, Mark.
And in a similar mood. 'Come a little closer' said the spider to the fly.

Misumena vatia spider; and the fly escaped.
This Digger Wasp looks a bit like Ectemnius cavifrons but identification really needs a microscope and an actual specimen to be certain.

Wow, you guys are good! I love looking at all of these, just wish I had more bugs about to shoot. Well, here's all I could find. The grasshoppers this year are plentiful, but shy. These two stayed put for me...I felt blessed....:)

And the garden spiders are plentiful this year....I counted more than 18 of these just around my house. I love to leave their webs and watch them grow. They make quick work of other bugs. Hmmm....maybe that's why I am short of variety around here...? Oh, and I'm missing a cat.....ha ha ha....not really. Too many of those about. They just keep multiplying.

Incidentally, can anyone point me to a good bug ID page for UK insects? I can't find this one on the Butterfly Conservation webpage.

This guy likes people - jumped off a tree I was examining and landed on the back of my neck, managed to get him onto the ground safely. Actually this is kind of my nightmare for night photography, I almost walked into a dying/enraged large orb weaver spider hanging from a tree at head height in the middle of our driveway a couple of weeks back. This guy was cool though :D
Probably the smallest spider I've taken photos of so far - all are crops from 1.96x photos -

Found a whole bunch of ladybug larvae and hatchlings on a shrub I'd never seen a single insect take the slightest interest in before.

^ not large :) These were with the 60mm macro at 1:1 and the raynox 250 and 150 stacked again, and then cropped. Pretty much right against the front of the 150 and a real bugger to light.

Empty husks, actually thought these were some kind of true bug / sap sucking thing until I got the photos back, too small to actually see, and I didnt associate them at all without the colourful bug/larvae inside.

Not particularly impressive as a photo but I was pleased getting a fly the size of a grass seed in gusty wind with an MF lens :D

Finding this one caterpillar on this bush has led me to search every single one of these around for anything similar in the days since, so far it's about the only bug I've seen on one. What a time waster :D
