Re: My PP project for 2014
Hi Kris,
I am new to this forum but wanted to let you know that I totally get what you are trying to do. If this is a learning forum and my short time here certainly suggests that then your efforts are all about that. I agree with some of the comments your February pic engendered about the homogeneous color tones but I was able to distinguish the dog. I think I will try this for myself because I too would like to dig out the artist.

Hi Kurt...welcome to CiC. This is not a totally learning forum because there are competitions and the lot here too. The big difference here as to other photography forums I have been a member of and this one is that here we are all friends, teachers, students and critics. The camaraderie is just superb. I hope Colin, Donald and the other moderators will see fit to keep it this way. Once in awhile like other forums, there will be one who will come in that doesn't seems to belong to this community and its way but they usually do not last long. Please stay long enough to get to know us all through our photography styles. It will be nice to see your work too.
Cheers...

Hi Kurt,
Welcome to this forum.
By all means, dig out the artist in you. I would very much like to see the result.
I started this project after I retired, and had a lot of time on my hands.
Re: My PP project for 2014
The original was taken at least 7 or 8 years ago with a little P&S.
The colour was off, it was blurred and it was just overall a bad picture. But, I keep even the bad pictures of my grandkids, regardless.
I was trying for something nostalgic/dreamy/old fashioned, as a rescue attempt. This one is small - it's cropped from the original jpg.

Here is when I stopped - everything I did beyond this point turned out to make it REALLY bad.
That was my cue to stop this, and start looking for an Aril project.
I came back to this a few times, but I really got stuck on this version.
For better or worse - this is it for this March.
Re: My PP project for 2014
There is something quite haunting but very beautiful here - I can't stop looking at it but still can't put my finger on what attracts me to it...................

Very nice.

Thanks Kaye, I very much appreciate your feedback!

April 2014: Totally inspired by Sharon (Daisy May)
Not even close to her expertise, but I'm fairly happy with this one:

Re: My PP project for 2014
Another good one..... I'd like the red a little lighter/brighter but that is a very personal opinion.

Thanks Kaye. Appreciate feedback.
The print is actually slightly brighter than the monitor shows. It looks better on my large screen monitor than on my laptop.
Re: My PP project for 2014
I like the abstract of the girl. Probably because it's a little bit dark, and by that I mean a little creepy.
The flowers are cool too. Kind of reminds me of an old oil painting..

Your imagination is worse than mine!:D:)
I'm still trying to find it.....
Re: My PP project for 2014
Keep or trash?
Nothing abstract this time - just a (maybe) rescue attempt.
The original is really not the best - but I don't know if the edit is really an improvement.
I've been looking at this picture way too long - another set of eyes is badly needed!:)

Re: My PP project for 2014
I like the edit, definitely added something to a typical flower shot.

I prefer the edit. However as a general comment over time I think I would trash this one - the rose is not quite sharp and the background distracting.
Re: My PP project for 2014
John and Kaye - thank you both for the feedback.
I'm gonna stare at it a little longer - maybe do something about the background.
Re: My PP project for 2014
I don't know how I have missed revisiting this thread, Kris, but I just want to say I think that picture above of your granddaughter is outstanding. I love the tones and the texture you have put over it. I like the next one too with the dark flowers. It brings to mind creepy fairy tale illustrations.
I am not so sure about the recent flower though. Your processing has improved it but I'll wait to see what your imagination breeds for this one ;)
