For me, Jon, the lines seem to 'flow' better with the last image. Although possible a narrower aperture or a merge of focus points might give fractionally more focus depth. But it still needs to fade into the distance as you have done with that image.

Week 16 - Photo edit, before & after
Of all my weak points in photography Editing is probably my weakest. I edit with minimal software and the software I do use I only know how to use a small portion of it. :( I don't know how to clone, burn, dodge and all those other things people do. Don't get me wrong, I am working on it but it is very slow coming.
With that said, here are a couple of before and after shots with my minimalistic approach to processing.
