Re: These are my favorites of 2012
Not exactly my favourites but 3 that gave me the most satisfaction for meeting objectives I had set out to achieve. Took lots of practice, patience, persistence, observation and many failures.

A beginners trio.
We have some glorious sun rises and sun sets here. This is a sunset over the mountains in front of our house.

An exceedingly un-cooperative model! Every time I aimed, he moved.

This I took last week in a very run down area of Barcelona. I find it very moving but don't know why. The eyes follow you around the screen. I've called it "Through the graffiti".

Some Wonderful Wonderful images here. The images being posted demonstrate the serious talent of the CIC members!
Im so glad I found this community, its exactly what a amateur photographer needs to develop skills and show off there work!
While Im at it, Id like to extend my thanks to our moderators for their enthusiastic input throughout 2012 !!! Thanks guys and here's to 2013 (drinks deeply from the beer in my left hand!) .
Because of problems with my right Tibia, I have been unable to get out and about for large parts of this year, so being at home a lot I spent a considerable amount of time trying to capture
drip collisions. With little else to offer, here are my 3.

Re: These are my favorites of 2012
This is difficult: like choosing your favourite child. Or maybe favourite beer, which in my case varies from day to day.
I like this because I had to pay by standing waiting for over 30 minutes on three really cold mornings before nature would cooperate

Re: These are my favorites of 2012
I really didn't think this would be very hard for me to pick 3 photos...boy was I wrong!! I have taken a lot of photos over the course of the year, most of them are just ho-hum variety shots. After seeing all the magnificent photos posted so far (and no doubt there will be a lot more) I was not going to post any of my meager attempts. But after looking through a years worth of photos I realized that I HAVE made some improvement through-out the year...and I would like to thank everybody here at CiC for their helpful comments and support. This community has had a very large part in helping me become better at this hobby of mine. THANK YOU ALL!
So here we have my 3 favorite of the year. I think.
Fungus...

My favorite tree. I had planned on taking a shot of this tree every month over the year just to watch it change...well that didn't work out very well...

Re: These are my favorites of 2012
Not quite the only place Mike! A couple weeks ago, on Thanksgiving weekend, I got off the freeway about 4 blocks from my place, turned left on the road to my place, and wound up with a drunk driving breathalizer checkpoint right spang in front of my favorite pizza place. To add insult to injury, because I don't consume alcohol, when I turned from the line going through the checkpoint into the pizza place's parking lot, one of the deputy sheriffs came into the parking lot with his breathalizer and had me give him a sample. Then, when I went out of the parking lot and back into the line of waiting cars, another deputy wanted me to give him a sample. Fortunately, he was willing to check with the first deputy to be sure he had my sample (which I had passed). ;~(
I'm jes' sayin'....

Re: These are my favorites of 2012
I like the crow because (a) it was taken in the wild as opposed to my backyard (b) It was in motion as opposed to standing still or perching like most of my bird shots and (c) I still got a nice sharp shot

It was hard to pick a favourite from my snow fence shots, but I like this one becaue to me it kind of conveys motion. Every time I look at it I imagine the fence being lifted by the wind and flying off the page

This is a favourtie becaue I actually went to a planned event found a good spot and took a reasonably good shot.

This different sunset photo with the cattle and ponies on Bodmin moor.
These are three of my favourite shots for the year. I like them because i think they are better than the pictures i took last year. I think being a member here has helped me progress beacause of the good advice and inspiration received.
Re: These are my favorites of 2012
Mike - While I'm not a horse person (more in a minute), I LOVE that white horse. I'm a bit curious to know whether you just happened on the horse or planned the shot or... In any case, IMHO, it's gorgeous! Thank you.

Seeing the quality of the images on here I didn't think I should dare post any... but here goes.
My first venture into shooting fast moving objects. This guy was the best of all the kite surfers that day and as soon as he spotted me sitting on the beach he put on a show. Even though it's a bit blurred it reminds me of a great day and just how fast this guy was moving.

I was exploring the area on my bike one morning and found this cottage. The sky told me what was about to happen, I took a few shots, packed away the camera and arrived home 15 minutes later absolutely soaked.

A friend of ours found a street cat that had been knocked down, resulting in a broken leg and hip. The vet performed major repairs but said if someone didn't give her a home she'd be put down as she couldn't go back on the street again. We gave her a home and I think she looks quite content here.

Some beautiful and inspiring shots in this set so far. With each one, it gets a little harder to post. But here are a few:
I have started doing a lot of fall shots of flowering plants, to get at textures. Here is a Rose of Sharon in our garden:

I do a lot of bugs. This little sweat be caught my eye, and even though it is not as close as some that I have done, I like it. It was swaying on a tall echinacea in a stiff wind, and she was a skittish one, so it took a lot of tries.

I took a night photography workshop with Mark Bowie in the Adirondacks last summer, and I took this one a few nights later. It was taken at about 11 PM. I had remembered 20 minutes, but the exif says 10. The yellow glow is a couple of sodium lamps in a tiny town (population perhaps 100) about 7 miles away, reflecting off dense clouds. The clouds almost obscure the star trails.
