A wee timorous beastie, me that is; not the subject!
Saw this little chap on a patch of concrete outside the back door this morning and thought to myself, "Hey. Why not?":)
The hardest part of lining up the shot was getting my old bones prone on the concrete path to get up close for a side view shot before the subject hopped it. My knees and elbows are still tingling from concrete contact.
Not having a macro lens and not knowing my knee from my elbow on these matters I used a zoom kit lens for the shots. I reckoned it was just a matter of 'getting focused and going for brokeh!' :D
Cheers

Well done. Not sure if I'd been down there I would've managed to get back up! Excellent work.
I wonder if #3 is just a bit over-exposed? You've got the detail beautifully.

Hi Donald
Thanks for viewing and taking the time to comment and for passing on the helpful tip on over exposure.

Hi Ken, nice going on all 3. I love #2 for the simplicity of the background, same with #3 but as already mentioned it seems a bit bright. It's interesting to see just how shallow the DOF is when looking at the cement. All 3 are great shots but I think # 2 would have been a gem if the focus could have been just a bit sharper on the eye.
Great shots though and congratulations on getting up. :D

Hi Wendy
Thank you for viewing and for your helpful feedback comments. Your very kind congratulations on my being able to get up bought a tear to my eye... almost as many as were generated by the actual effort of my trying to arise from a prone position!:D

We need to design a light weight photographers lift so us older less limber ones can get back up. Nicely done.

Re: A wee timorous beastie, me that is; not the subject!
Hi Dave
Thanks for viewing. And hey, what a brilliant idea! And maybe if it was really well padded and comfy we could also use it to have a little 'granpa' nap whilst we were down there:)

Thank you James. I guess once in a while St Serendipity answers our prayers in these matters.:)

Nice work Ken. The others have covered the comments but you have shown how important it is to get the beasty parallel to the focal plane.

Re: A wee timorous beastie, me that is; not the subject!
HI Peter
Thank you for viewing and for taking time to post a reply. Your comment about parallelism of the subject to the focal plane was very well made and, to be frankly honest, something of which I was not really aware.. as I said above... St Serenedepity often lends a hand:)

Hi Ken,
Add me to the list of people that like 'em, although I like them in this order; #1 (best), #3 and then #2.
Can't add anything beyond the previous comments, so I'll stop there.
All the best,

Re: A wee timorous beastie, me that is; not the subject!
You were able to get those shots with just the kit lens?!? Amazing! I wish I could do even half as well. I did order a DR-6 right angle viewfinder for my Nikon so maybe there is some hope yet for these aching bones!

Hi Frank
Yes I did. For me it's called beginner's luck or a**e beats class:D Thank you for viewing and commenting. Good luck with the new view finder.

Ken,
You have done a great job here with composition, Bokeh, and exposure. I would just like to add one
constructive comment. Try and focus on the eyes next time. I feel that if the eyes are out of focus it spoils
the shot. Everythinbg else is spot on.
