Father & Son

My good friend recently had a baby, and I brought my camera along to capture his first day in the world. He is just shy of 36 hours old in this picture. I liked this picture the best because it captured the feelings of the whole situation: my friend had not planned to have the child and had broken up with the child's mother before they knew she was pregnant. My friend, mixed with feelings of both happiness and apprehension about having such a responsibility, looks down at his son, contemplating the knowledge and morals he must now pass down to his child. Meanwhile the son, looking upwards, tries to make sense of his wondrous new surroundings. Their mouths, both open with a sort of ambiguous expression, come to represent the uncertainty of how the navigation of their new worlds will progress.
