1973? 1971? At my age, what's two years.
So what did we do in '73? Oh, that was joining the then European Economic Community (EEC), now the EU - wasn't it?
Now, where have I left my groats? Or, I could give you 6 sheep for your 40D.

Blimey Bernard that brings back some memories. I remember how rich I felt when I got a couple of these to take on my first holiday to Cumbria...or Lancashire, Cumberland and Westmorland as it was called then. I always though Westmorland was a far romantic name than Cumbria. Mind you I was born in Lancashire but if I go back to where I was born it's now in Cheshire!!! What is it with Councils and Government.
I don't think you have invader's head on your notes do you? Is it Lord Ilay or some such dignitary. Back in the 70's lot of shops in North Wales would not accept Scottish notes. I never did figure that one out.
Here you go Richard; £1.85 beats that Southern rubbish. £13.00 and I don't know what it is, around here I expect a five course meal for that. :)

We're being ripped off down here. Aus $3.50 for a cup of coffee or tea. Fish and chips in a cafe? $20. A posh restaurant - $35 - 40. Beer in a cafe $6 - 8 at least. In a pub or a club, $4 -5 for a beer. 6 x 375ml boutique beer from the supermarket or a liquor store is about $20. A sandwich from a cafe $7 - 10.
Maybe that holiday to the UK isn't so expensive after all. Or maybe it's just that our $ is strong at the moment.

Hi Steve,I can remember when I could get 7 pints of light beer and a packet of crisps for one of these, now i couldn,t get the crisps for one cheers Re Scottish notes,if they accepted them in England they would only give you 19/6d for £1 INSTEAD OF 20 SHILLINGS
Cor; I went to Lichfield recently, only ten miles south and crisps had gone up 30%, they would cost more than ten bob. Cheers Bernard, I used to live a week on a fiver.
Things are too expensive where you are Raylee, you can get a filling meal such as a pie, chips and peas with free drink here for a fiver, between 12 and 2pm I think some do offers of two for one. You don't have to have chips, you can have other things.
But I can remember going to London ten years ago; a cup of tea was £2.50, an apple from a street vendor £1. But I found a place in the West End where you could get homemade pizza for £1 if you ate it off the premises; and I had a lot of pizza. :D
Ten bob was worth £5.69 in 1971 according to this:

I used to get paid a few quid for two paper rounds and a job shovelling muck on a farm, but I used to hand it over and got ten bob pocket money. :)
