And if I am allowed another for consideration, this is a favourite, because is shows what good glass is capable of capturing . . . and hopefully some Photographic Skill as I consider the execution close to a Personal Best, as it was, Hand Held, 1/8 sec, Canon 24L wide open at F1.4 on a Canon 5D, ISO 1600.
It losses a bit of IQ on the LH side, but hey, I was happy as a clam to nail this just as I saw it walking along a wharf, New Years Eve 2008.
And also, I think there is a lesson here:
If we look at my image, and then compare it to John's & Colin's images above (just as two examples) and note how John waited for the light he wanted, and also note Colin's detailed preparation - their results show a technically better image than mine.
Thus the preparation is absolutely worth every moment and each little effort at each stage of the image making process contributes to a quality finish . . . as I could have done technically better with my image (both ISO and Aperture) had I been carrying my tripod, and had time to Plan the shot.

The photo I use as my avatar is presently my favourite. I spent over two hours playing around with glycerin and water and a flashlight.

This one here has a hot spot at the top that I corrected, but I am posting at work so don't have the corrected image.

Well I recognised it Nigel, and able to compare it with a 'straight' take. There was a green boat conveniently moored in front when I took it. Interested what others feel, but I am not keen on the fuzzing effect around the chimney nor the greenish yellow filter

Time well spent. I like the water drops.
