Awoke to a great foggy morning with the sun minutes away from breaking the horizon. Jumped in my truck and headed down the bayou to get to a good shot. Made numerous ones, but I think this is my favorite.

I've just upgraded my Elements 8 to 9 & have been busy loading old files into it & have been deleting an absolute ton of images. I have been coming across some gems though during the process, here's one of them that I thought I'd share with you. It's of a crabbers skiff at Pumistone Passage, Bribie Island,Queensland.

Good Find!

Hello, this is a photo I took the other day of a bridge at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria....something is a little off though...I think the lighting isn't working for me? (It was late afternoon and cloudy, I plan to go re-shoot closer to sunset on a clearer day..) - or maybe just the overall composition? I like the shot, but it's a little flat... or something lol
Any thoughts would be welcome :)

Nice looking Bridge and feel to the area. The small area of land sticking into the photo makes me want to see the bank on that side as it looks like it could hold a nice line. On the opposite side there is a duck cut right in half and would make this photo a bit better if cloned out and the dark small bit of branch in the upper corner. You might play with the contrast a little. Looks like a nice spot.

Thank you Paul, the bank on the other side has some large trees along that line that I included in the foreground in a few shots hoping to show a good depth of field...unsuccessful! I'll be trying it again... and I do see what you mean about the cut off duck as well, I've cropped the photo a touch and played around with the contrast and levels etc, but to me it just looks over processed now... I'm going to redo it.... it is a lovely spot, only a couple of hours by ferry from you lol - I've spent some very enjoyable time in Seattle, love it there! :)

I like the overall scene and I think you hit all the colors and saturations, etc., pretty well but for me it lacks a central focal point. I find it overly busy with ducks coming at me and from the side...and th etree branch hanging is a nice touch except when there is so much other activity going on....lots of nice lines, just too many of them.

I think a later time of day and less foreground and more to a central pointed theme. You must be close to Victoria. My brother lives on San Juan Island, near Friday Harbor. Beautiful part of the world.

Thank you Chris, maybe that is what was bothering me too, I just couldn't quite pinpoint what was not right with the shot! I will re-post once I have a good day to go re-shoot.... I live in Victoria, about 3 blocks from this park.... stopped in Friday Harbour once on the Anacortes ferry, but didn't get off lol :)

You should have gotten off at the ferry stop because right next to the ticket counter, there is a place that makes the best sticky buns on the face of the earth...absolutely scrumptious. Looking forward to the reshoot.

Ahh, you too huh. :D It is a 45 min ride on the bike early in the morning and will be a point of destination a few times at least this summer. Likely as I am heading to shoot Deception Pass and it's beaches. Hmmm...sticky bunns. :D

next time for sure, I'll add it to my list of places to get fantastic sticky buns! lol

I'm not sure if this works or not. This is from the end of a shingle spit that sticks out into the Solent at low tide. I walked as far as I could to try and give some idea of how far out it goes.

Nikon D200, 18-200vr, 18mm, F8, 1/180, ISO 200.

Your photo is interesting and it really shows the low tide. The curve of the gravel guides our eye to the right and then we follow the land coast to the left. I also like the large area of gravel in the foreground.
The only thing I am sorry in this picture is that you have too many foot steps which can be a little distracting...

Antonio - thanks for the feedback, very useful. A couple of people and their dogs were there a few minutes before so that is why there are so many footprints, unfortunately.

Actually, I like the footprints as they give a touch of humanity to the scene. Totally pristine environments don't speak to man's interaction with nature. Each to his own but I would have shot this scene exactly as Mike has. I, for one voice, think without the footprints the shot would be boring.
