Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
"a slightly different type, the post held by the guy being arrested and an explanation
There is a photography connection. More specific, more score. My own pic & I never erase exif."
Hmmm, I haven't checket the Exif info - but there's something about the chap that looks vaguely familiar. I'm suspicious of the uniform though - it looks like it was from earlier years, and yet the cars look quite modern.
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
I did check the EXIF -- with some difficulty -- and it wasn't very helpful; though I see you are on Apple with gamma of 1.8 -- don't we all use 2.2 nowadays?
Otherwise, this looks a staged set-up; the cop is dressed from a much earlier vintage than the other chap [who is not holding anything!], and the cars are modern. Possibly a recreation in period dress of an historic event/scenario -- and the chap being 'arrested' might be the director...give us a clue!
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
the relevence of the exif is that it positively ties it down to one of my ...er historicalish...collections from which it is omitted; then all is revealed
BTW & pretty irrelevent, but macBook pro calibrated thus, as default maybe 1.8; surprised it comes in exif, but probably of interest to secret police.
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
Exif reveals image shot on 16th June 2007 @ 10:25am - Possibly PC is holding old-fashioned handcuffs in his hand - other chap perhaps not looking too happy about being photographed (clenched fist?).
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
Crisscross on his retirement day, being released from the shackles of work!

Go on Colin, you can do better than that especially as you keep some of your pics in the same place; however some kind soul has also sorted the signature problem.

Crisscross at the Black Country Museum?

I think call it quits at this, as although it isn't me, which would be obvious if you youngsters did your homework properly.
It is actually the chairman of the Newent Camera Club; location correct. Hope one or two others will enjoy a virtual visit at http://www.pbase.com/crisscross/black_country_museum. Save you overseas guys thousands, but a real visit worth it too
Probably time for new one.
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
I was beginning to think that it had something to do with Albert Campion and The Crime at Black Dudley...
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
This seems to be getting like an illustrated version of Round Britain Quiz...
Here are three pix, all from the same place; they all have their names on them and a reference to their location:
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/144/knowledgeli3.jpghttp://img207.imageshack.us/img207/2866/virtueam4.jpghttp://img204.imageshack.us/img204/1026/sophia2ey3.jpg
They are personifications of what traits?
And there is a fourth one -- who is she, what does she personify?
[All from a pre-digital era, hence the poor quality]
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
NOOoo!
I know who these represent but I'm not allowed to google as I can't remember all their attributes!
Thread of life was one.

Err, no! Try again! And there are 4 of them [only 3 Fates] personifying the particular qualities the chap in whose memory they were erected; more generally, personification of attributes -- like John Bull represents England, Marianne represents France etc; but these aren't countries, they are human attributes.
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
Lets try some erosion:
Episteme is knowledge
Sophia is wisdom
Arete is the sharp & nasty sort of thing you have to climb on mountain faces, maybe acuity?
That only leaves being President of the United States, but seems to be wrong sex
Kelsog must be the place, a forerunner of back of cereal packets?
Wish I had spent the grisly years of youth I spent on Latin on Greek instead

Very good, correct!

Not quite, more like virtue.

Well, his immediate predecessor, Bush43, didn't seem to be too endowed with this attribute -- 'ennoi'.

Having seen on pbase what you used to do, the building ought to be easy :D if I tell you that it was build in 2nd cent AD, in memory of the chap whose name is on the statues [he left money in his will]; but more particularly, it was built in a rather cramped site, and is famous [having been reconstructed] for various architectural devices to make it look bigger and more prominent -- the front, for example, is slightly curved.
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
Shows how sophisticated I am - my first thought was "No - don't do it - DON'T JUMP!"
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
Crisscross came quite close; the building is the Library of Celsus in Ephesus, which housed one of the largest scroll libraries of the time. Built in the 2nd cent AD, there are 4statues on the front, representing Celsus's attributes:
Episteme = knowledge
Ennoi = intelligence
Arete = virtue
Sophia = wisdom.
the famous basilica church in Istanbul, is Santa Sophia; not named after a saint, it is the church of the holy wisdom.
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
This is pretty erudite stuff Bertie. I think the temple of Diana and theatre were all that made it from Ephesus into architectural education. I must admit all that doodling around the edges isn't quite what I asociate with the more restrained Greek stuff which flowered around Athens c 400 BCE. 6 centuries of decadence for you, even if posing as culture. Fortunately I just missed the height of classicist education, just a pen & wash of a corner of the Parthenon and a sheet of Roman lettering.

Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
I suspect this is the guy who during the war vetoed an economy measure that doors in house of comons offices would have only 2 initials instead of full name?
Re: Who am I (New Challenge)
Sheesh...now, I am going to have to google him! I take picture, remember, not history lessons! :D
