Re: The Great Chuck & Colin Bird / Boat Challenge!
I usually use a tripod now so that's cool so I should do that. Someone else recommended the similar thing actually (but to change layer style instead) but I completely forgot to try that. I tend to use on 2sec timer and most shots with tripod locked so doesn't shake or move (as experimenting taking stacked image for hdr) and subject often nothing moving that fast (well for a few min to make a difference). I guess the result isn't as good as single long exposure but will be better than it is. Thanks.

"Does these qualify for inclusion in competition?"
Yes - the only rule is that there are no rules! :)

Re: The Great Chuck & Colin Bird / Boat Challenge!
that bird you posted David creeps me out. It's a great shot but looks like it takes offense at your presence and is one sinister looking mofo.
Re: The Great Chuck & Colin Bird / Boat Challenge!
Since some of these are rather good, I'd better post my notorious boat shot just to save face!

Re: The Great Chuck & Colin Bird / Boat Challenge!
Hi David,
Interesting looking "windows" on that boat. What kind of boat was it - I'm a bit puzzled by it!
Cheers,
Colin

This fella is pretty common around the local lake. I'm surprised he/she let me get so close. Shot with a 80-200 Canon zoom.

This Bay Owl I shot in Malaysia. Strangest looking fella.

It's a barge, a lot of people here live on them (well maybe not lots). Where was that taken?
Re: The Great Chuck & Colin Bird / Boat Challenge!
We are seeing some really nice boats and birds. I have no boats to post but I'll throw in another bird to keep the shots coming. This is a California Quail.

Hi Colin - The boat is what we call a narrow boat and they are used on canals in the UK. There are similar boats in most European countries that have canals. They are used principally as recreation vehicles and enthusiasts can travel the length and breadth of England (less in Scotland and Wales). They putter along at about 2 knots and have to navigate up and down locks. People sleep, eat, and exist in them during all weathers. Some people like this, but I say no more.
The windows are the normal porthole sort, but many narrow boats have been adapted to have large rectangular windows. It looks as if this one has the framework for such windows, but only the metal cladding is in place.
Thank goodness you didn't ask about the bird.
Cheers
David
PS I've just seen Nocturne's comment - the photo was taken on the Macclesfield canal near the small town of Bollington in Cheshire.

I don't believe "that" quail was from California. However you get an "A" in recent history.
Cheers back at you

Re: The Great Chuck & Colin Bird / Boat Challenge!
I'm always amazed at how bird photographers are able to identify their subjects - I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between a sparrow and an albatross! (or a fine wine -v- vinegar!).
I shot this to add to the challenge here the other day - perhaps someone here can tell me what kind of bird it is?

Colin - It looks like some kind of shag, but then you Antipodeans have strange birds.
