Just upload the instructions or the original manual in *.pdf to Perplexity, ChatGPT or another similar app, and then ask your question directly and objectively. You’ll almost always get a precise and clear answer. However, it’s important to keep in mind that if you’ve made previous changes, these may influence or modify the parameter in question, which can make the search a little more complicated. Still, with some persistence — by asking and re-asking — we always end up finding what we’re looking for.

It’s definitely worth trying!

It has a high-resolution mode, 50 MPX hand-held and 80 MPX on a tripod.

Dan, I have been following the updates on your new OM kit.
I noticed the potential to increase the resolution to as high as 80 MPX - given the size of the sensor will diffraction not be an issue?

My understanding is that diffraction becomes more severe--that is, starts at a wider aperture--as pixel size decreases. So in general, it's more severe with smaller sensors, to the extent that they have smaller pixels. That's one cost of a smaller sensor. However, I agree with Colin Southern, who several times posted that in actual use, it matters less than people think. The Photopills diffraction calculator gives two values: the aperture at which one can begin to see diffraction in a 100% crop, and the aperture at which one can begin to see it in a print (assuming 8 x 10, viewed from 10 inches. The first number for the OM-1 is f/5.0. The second is f/11.

But as for how the high-res mode affects this: I hadn't thought about this before seeing your post. This works by shifting the sensor slightly and taking additional images that the camera composites. It seems to me that diffraction should limit the apertures at which this works well. This may be why one person posted that he got results with the high-res mode that he didn't consider as good as what he got with a high res FF camera.

The low resolution on screens makes much of this a moot point. The acid test is for me prints. It will be some weeks before I have prints from the OM-1. I'll try to do some A/B comparisons, like regular vs. high res and maybe comparable shots with the R6.

That being said Colin Southern makes a very good point about diffraction and print size.
As to the high res mode some testing and printmaking will be revealing. I look forward to your further reports in due course.

I'll make some prints for comparison, but I'll be delayed. The computer I use for editing is leased using my funds but through my university, and they just notified me yesterday that the lease has expired and that I have to return it. There is a LOT on that computer, it I suspect it will take me some time once the replacement arrives to set it up and install my photo software and printer. It will be sometime in November before I'll be able to do this. Frustrating, as I am very curious.

Finally got out to do some experimenting with the OM-1. Not a great day--heavy gusts that made it hard to get crisp photos. Of course, the acid test is prints, which will have to wait a while, but given the conditions, I think it performed fine. Here's one SOOC, showing what the day was like:
