That is great to read, Danielle. Thank for choosing to join CiC. I hope this is the start of a long involvement in the forum and that you continue to find an enjoyable as well as helpful resource.
So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile (under 'Forum Actions' on the Menu Bar), or you can just press on 'Settings' on the menu bar right up at the top right of the window. Once there you can enter the name by which you wish to be addressed under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.

Welcome Danielle - I've a feeling that you're going to fit in well here ...
- We're all interested in photography too!
- We could do with more input from experienced graphic designers (what programs do you use?)
- and our illustrious leader Sean ("McQ") did his PHD in chemical engineering!
... so you should feel right at home!

Hi, my name is Nancy and I'm not only new to digital photography but to Forums so I hope I'm posting this introduction in the correct place… I just bought a Sony Nex 6 and I am very excited about it but overwhelmed by all the options, modes and so on. I'm used to dealing only with aperture and shutter speeds… I've searched for tutorials but they all assume a level of knowledge beyond mine. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. I live in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico - a very photogenic place!
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Welcome Nancy,
Don't be too intimidated by all the capabilities of your new camera. In fact, your control of shutter speed and aperture coupled with film speed will serve you well.
The automation just lets you concentrate more on the image and na bit less on exposure.
All the scene modes are are automation for things you probably already know. OH, a running man for sports. Us old guys already know that you need a high shutter speed to stop action and that means a wider aperture and fast film gives you some leeway. Somebody programmed a computer with that sort of fundamental knowledge and let it make the decisions.
In fact, I seldom use scene modes since it's too much trouble to remember all the icons.
So, don't let it intimidate you with all the automation, take some pictures and enjoy yourself.

Hello Santhosh and welcome to the CiC forum.
If you wish you can go to Edit Profile and put in your location, so that it appears in the sidebar alongside your message, just like mine beside this message. Then everybody knows where everybody else is.
As to your question - may I suggest you start a new thread in the 'Digital Cameras & Equipment' section of the forum and ask your question. Please give details of what you think you want the lens to do and the budget you have for it. That will help people provide helpful advice. You could also choose the 'Discussion Categories' tag from the menu bar at the top and then choose 'lenses'. You will find many discussions about lenses.

My name is Gary living in So California. I just turned 66 and am looking forward toward retirement in 4 yrs. I have some experience in photography mostly self taught (Semi-knowledgeable armature). I shoot with a Canon 50D using one fixed 50mm; a 70-200 f4; 24-70 f2.8 and a 90mm fixed macro. I love taking aircraft shots and landscapes. I am trying to get a business going to pay for some of "toys" by doing local head/group/family work. My site is photogaryd.com feedback is what I need, both on my photography; I can always use help with software issues; keeping up is a challenge.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everybody,
I am just an old dog (turned 62 last month) trying to learn a few new tricks (take half-decent pictures). I bought a Nikon D90 camera & a Nikon 18-55 lens about 3 years ago & started reading up tutorials on photography on the net. Over the years I picked up a few more lenses (Nikon 55-200, Nikon 50, Tokina 11-16 & Sigma 150-500), a couple of tripods & a gorillapod. I love shooting landscapes & architecture when I am travelling. Am planning a trip to a tea-garden in North Bengal next month & hope to start using the Sigma to photograph a wild elephant or two, a few pretty birds & if extremely lucky a one-horned rhino in the Gorumara Wildlife Reserve nearby.
Thanks for letting me in here. Wish you all Merry Christmas & a very Happy New Year.

Gary - That's the category that the vast majority of people on here fit into. So, you're in good company.
Great to have you here. Thanks for joining.
I hope what you'll find on the forum is that people are always willing to share knowledge, skills and experience and I hope you will feel able to do the same so that others can learn from you. That's a great set of images on your website. You certainly know how to shoot people.
