'elocks' a big welcome to CiC from me. Hope you enjoy the site and being a member.
Don't forget you can add your real name and a rough location so it shows every time you post, just like mine. Just edit you profile; if you wish to add your details, most of us use first names here and its nice to know where everyone is in the world.
Cheers

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello all-
My name is Aaron and I'm very new to dSLR photography, just purchased a Nikon D5200 and have read through most of the initial topics on your page here. I'm looking forward to learning more and eventually getting into macro photography. I'll be saving up for the Tokina lens I've got my eye on for a while, but that'll get me broken in with my kit lens anyhow. Looking forward to learning more.

Hi Everyone
My Name is Dean and I am from the land down under. I am happy to be part of CiC as none of my friends are into photography. A bit a bout myself, I was given a Canon Entry level 1100D as a gift back in February this year and this was the time I ever held a DSLR and felt in love with Photography ever since. I bought myself a Nikon D600 in April and a few lenses and for the last 4 months I have been actively researching about photography and taking photos every week. I am looking forward to post some of my photos here and hopefully I can learn more about photography from all your constructive criticism.
Cheers
Dean :)

Hi Aaron, welcome on board CiC, and to the wonderful world of dSLR photography. Look forward to hearing more from you in the forums, and maybe seeing some images.
This is a friendly place, and it would also be good if you could edit your profile to let everyone know whereabouts you are in world, and how you’d like to be known (in CiC terms your “real name”). To do that, you click Settings (right at top), then Edit Profile (on left) and put your first name in the Real Name field and where you are (roughly) in the Location field. That way, your details will appear alongside all of your posts.

Hello, there, and a warm welcome to CiC. You say that you are coming up to retirement - what kind of photography have you been doing, and what do you hope to do in the future. I hope that you enjoy your time here, and find it useful.

Hello Dean from Oz and welcome, there are a few of your fellow countrymen on here already. Sounds like you have jumped into photography and up the learning curve. This is a great place for learning and sharing more (and don't forget the tutorials - some of the best on the net). Look forward to seeing some of your images and hearing more from you.

Hey,
I'm Divinia, from London and Instagram made me fall back in love with photography, and when a friend asked me to do some photography for her I knew it was time to dust off my old camera. I use a Canon 30D and have cleared my weekends to practice by using the tutorials on this website (what a great resource!).
I would also like to be critically informed too and I was wondering if there were any free photography lectures or talks in London that could be recommended that I could go along to.
I'm really excited about returning to this path, and I look forward to posting my photographs for comments and help with improving them.

Hi
I'm Matt from the USA. I really want to take one specific photo type really well, that would be picture of my snakes. It's a hobby of mine to breed different snakes and I would love to show everyone else. I'm finding the pictures I take with what I have right now normally do not look like how I see them in real life. It looked like this forum might be able to help me out.

Hi Matt,
welcome to CiC, it's great to have you with us.
I can see from your other post you are considering changing your camera and have asked for advice on what equipment you would need. I'm sure you will get numerous advice from the members and hope whatever you decide to choose works for you.
Enjoy being a member.

Hi my name is Beverley and I am very new to DSLR photography. i have used a point and shoot for a few years but decided i wanted to get more out of this hobby. I have a Nikon 5100 with the standard 15 -55 lens and just got a 55-300 lens. My main likes when taking photos are flowers and landscapes. I was quite scared of taking my camera out of auto at first but getting used to it and start a evening course next week. My photos are basics so if I post any please be constructive...Thank you!
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi, I'm Lou, and I'm returning to SLR after many years as a lazy Canon PowerShot user. I still have some old Canon (A1) kit kicking around, but have just got myself a Canon 60D and a couple of lenses to get going (Canon 24mm, and Tokina 11-16). Starting a dSLR evening class next week; hoping to understand technical issues better as well as take better photos. I'm undecided about a next lens: maybe the 40mm pancake.
I found this site via the white balance tutorial. (I've been wading through my manual this afternoon, getting to know the camera better.) Great resource that I plan to make use of.

Hi all, just checking in to say hello. My real name is James and I live in Cork, Ireland. I am using a Nikon D7000 with an 18-70 zoom lens. I am also using an SB800 speedlite. Have not been serious about photography for a number of years, so just getting the feet wet again.

Shane welcome to CiC, it's great to have you on board.
I'm a Canon user myself and find it suits my needs perfectly. Are you using any PP software? If so what, I use Photoshop Elements myself, it does all I need for now.
I look forward to seeing your pictures.
Cheers
John

Divinia, I take it that's London England? (not Ontario). I've been looking into clubs and societies, and there are quite a few, so depending where you are in London... For example, there's one in Woolwich/Blackheath (founded 1892), and another in Forest Hill (founded 1889!)... I'm sure other areas have their own. You need to join the club, but it's fairly cheap and then you get lots of regular events - lectures, projects, competitions, visits, socials... Alternatively, drop into one or two events for free. Several post their calendars online.
There are also evening classes available at local colleges.
