So that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.
Thank you Donald, the Cambridge connection is understood, as I did see that you have a very broad membership, and my Cambridge is only one of many (albeit I would now assume the right one?)
I have added some notes to my Bio, so people should find that my real name is Robert.
I will post up a few of my snaps, just to enable people to see what I take, snaps mainly, but I would like to experiment with HDR, let's see as I do know it's quite complex.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
I would like to post a question and have no idea where to start. Everything I'm reading is about posting an image. How about some guidance? Thanks

Hello and welcome.
You've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. As to your question, if you read this thread (HELP THREAD: How can I post images here), it will tell you all you need to know about posting images onto the forum. I'd also suggest reading How to Get Effective Feedback for your Posted Image. This will help you get the most out of the experience of posting images and seeking constructive criticism.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello from the very wet and windy Channel coast. I've fallen in and out of love with photography many more times than once, but here I am again having another honeymoon with a Nikon D7000. I work up my RAW material with Helicon Focus - if I am image stacking - Helicon Filter for general post-production processing, and Helicon Remote for tethered camera applications like microscopy. I believe Photoshop has all these functions, though I've never actually tried it. There have been precious few days qualifying as 'sunny 16' recently, so I've spent more time than is good for man or beast to spend online, but all that surfing has brought me here, so not all time idled away at the computer has been wasted. Good to be on board!
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
I've been a very interested viewer of this website for it contains some extremely interesting information and material. Having been a semi-professional film cameraman (Nikon F3) for much of my previous working life I have started out digitally with a bridge camera - Lumix FZ100. But in spite of the inconvenience of carrying an assortment of lenses I am drawn again to a DSLR and am heading in the direction of a Nikon D7000. My main interests are landscape and wildlife and a further direction, lenswise, is the Sigma 150-500. I have read a number of reviews of this lens and it seems to find a predominant number of favourable comments. However, I have heard from one source that it's not quite so hot when shooting at 500mm. I would appreciate any comments on the Sigma 150-500mm.

Christopher - I'm very glad that your 'confined-to-the-computer' time led you to CiC and your decision to 'sign-up'.
I hope that you do find it a useful resource in helping you think through issues, seek answers to questions and, generally, have enjoyable and constructive discussion about all things photographic.

Thank you for the comment and a very warm welcome on board.
You might find that copying your questions about into a new thread in the Digital Cameras & Equipment section of the forum might yield a greater number of responses. People tend not to be looking in here for discussion topics and questions, so would miss the points that your raise.

Hi, my name is Rob and I live in the city of Calgary in Canada. I came across this site by lucky happenstance and am very glad I did. I have read some of the tutorials and enjoyed some of the photos posted by members. I know I will be able to learn a lot from both. I am looking forward to spending a lot of time here.

Hi all.
I'm Hugh. Live in Roberts Creek, British Columbia, Canada.
I've lurked around this site, but I've found it so good that I've joined.
After years and years of film and a few DSLR's, I now shoot my world with my Lumix LX5, which is always with me. That an my iPhone. The best camera? The one you have in your pocket when the shot presents itself.

I'm glad you did as well, Rob. Great to have you here.

If you wish, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your location so that it shows up alongside all your posts, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Very sage advice and a message worth remembering by people who think they can't get the picture because they don't have the right gear.
Hello Hugh and welcome to the forum. And thank you for deciding to join. I hope you find it both enjoyable and useful.

Hi,
I'm Michaela, and I'm from the West Midlands in the UK.
Photography is pretty new to me, I have had my camera for just over a year now, so am still learning.
This site looks great, and from the standard of the images I have viewed I think I shall learn a lot here.
Looking forward to getting to know you all. :)

Hi Michaela,
I was up your way (if Stoke-on-Trent, or the 'M6 toll', counts) earlier in the week. :)
Glad you are enjoying the forums (better than the weather), don't be shy, ask questions about the images you see, or better still, post your own and ask for feedback and ideas on how to avoid any problems you have when capturing or post processing.
Here are a couple of threads that may help;

Hello,
I received my MSc degree in Science for Cultural Heritage in 2009 from the University of Florence.
In 2006 I started working on various projects related to Conservation Science, Color Science and Digital Imaging, in the framework of the digitization of the Florentine museum heritage, collaborating with public and private institutions. During these years my main affiliation was with the Institute of Applied Physics (IFAC-CNR).
Since 2007 I have been a member of the European group CREATE (Colour Research for European Advanced Technology Employment) which promotes and exchanges research and knowledge through a series of conferences and training courses.
In 2010 I was selected for one of the two PhD positions in Imaging Science posted by the Imaging & Media Lab (IML) of the University of Basel, in collaboration with the Images and Visual Representation Group (IVRG) of the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Since September 2010 I have been working in Basel at the Imaging & Media Lab, on the digital reconstruction and permanence of photographs and motion-picture films by digital image processing.

Hi Dave, I'm about 40 miles from stoke - a bit to far to wave at you as you drove past I guess ;)
Thanks for the threads, I just have to pluck up courage to share some images now.

Yes, I (vaguely) remember that feeling when I first came here, but "jump in, the water's lovely", as they say.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello to everyone!
My name is Olya and I am Russian but I come from Lithuania. I am constantly on the move because of the work and right now I am in London, UK :)
I've studied Psychology but in the end I didn't pursue a career in this field (however I absolutely don't regret studying it).
2 years ago I became interested in photography. I consider it an art and although I never thought of myself as an artistic person, I actually enjoy photography a lot. I also understand that it involves a lot of studying, which I enjoy as well. Which brings me here... I've never belonged to any forum, never used one before and never posted anything so this is absolutely new to me *^^* I've used a camera (canon 400D) of one of my relatives and recently I've bought my own (a Canon 50D).
I've attended some courses of photography but probably for the first time I feel that learning should also come from sharing the experience with other people and learning from other people.. So am really looking forward to...everything!
