And then you sit down to watch France demolishing us at rugby (apologies to those parts of the world where rugby union football is not a big sport) and down a bottle of lovely Burgundy ....... and another group of people join.
So to: - Desi, Lesley (is everyone in Queensland joining this site?) , Geert and Robert ............
Hello and welcome. I'm glad you've found CiC and I hope it will be the resource you are hoping for to help you develop your skills and meet your needs in photography. I hope you'll find that it's a friendly, mature site where constructive discussion and debate is the order of the day.

Always happy to welcome a fellow Scot, John. Glad to have you on board CiC.
There are quite a few people on here who have shown us pretty impressive wildlife images. So, please do join in and post up your work.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi all,
I'm Elaine, have varied interests from birdwatching, wildlife, walking (especially with our little border terrier Frisa) and reading and cooking. New to photography, previously just used a compact Fujifinepix but recently fell heir to hubby's "old" DSLR so decided to have a go. Delighted to say I am finding it very addictive (now I understand how he can spend so long working on his shots) and thouroughly enjoying the steep learning curve. My camera is Canon 1000D and just bought a new 70-300mm f4 IS USM as I am interested in landscape photography and dabbling in a bit of bird and wildlife also. I also use a wee 50mm lens around the house for taking pics of our many pets, so this is probably the forum I will post most in. I look forward to learning from all the experts here and also will enjoy admiring all the photos.
Elaine

Elaine just a couple of posts above this, I was commenting on the flood of Queenslanders signing up. That's just about being equalled by the flurry of Scots now pouring in ..... which is great.
Welcome to you. I assume you mean your somewhere in Dumfries & Galloway which, along with Orkney are my two favourite parts of Scotland, apart of course from Lochaber where all God's children really come from!! Have spent many wonderful times in and around Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright .... and the Cream o' Galloway Ice Cream farm, but don't tell anyone else about that.
Great to have you join up and I hope you'll be an active member for a longtiem to come.

Hello and welcome. The first thing I'd ask is if you would like to edit your profile and put your proper name in under 'Real Name'. By doing so, it will then appear in the side bar in each of your posts. As you'll have seen, we tend to go with proper names on CiC. It's just part of the culture of the site which, I hope, you'll find it much less impersonal than many other fora that exist.
CiC is also focused on helping others learn and develop, so you are very, very welcome to start asking whatever photography related questions come into your head. If you're not confident about asking questions (and many folk are not) then use the search and 'tag' facilities on the site, because what you want to find out about has probably been discussed in the past.

Hi
New to DSLR just bought an Olympus E620 with 2 kit lenses after owning, like most, a few P & S cameras over the years. Went with the E620 more for it's smaller size and price ($600 Canadian). Have had a lot of fun the last few weeks learning all the buttons which while confusing at first now seem well thought out. Sold my old Nikon FE on craigslist in 1 day to help finance the new purchase. We have a boat so I'm really looking forward to the summer where hopefully I'll be getting a lot of Killer whale shots which I would post here except for the daunting quality of posts on this site. Tried some low light tripod shots last night and it's a lot trickier than it looks. And by the way, CIC is a great site. Allan Vancouver BC

Welcome Allan. I'm glad you've found CiC, especially if there's a promise of Killer Whale images later in the year! What a prospect. The thought that it might even be possible must be so exciting!
Your approach to to learning the camera sounds like the one that I would passionately advocate - learn what all the buttons do and get to feel so comfortable using them that you do it without even thinking. It's that thing about the camera becoming an extension of yourself.
And, if you want, do ask lots of question about, for example, low light photography. There are lot of masters and mistresses of the art on here that will be only too willing to share their knowledge.

Congratulations, Geoff. Life just gets more frustrating from here on in!
Seriously - enjoy the camera. Get to know how to use it inside-out, back-to-front and upside down. In other words, get to know everything about so that you can operate it in your sleep. The you can concentrate on the image that you're starting to create in the viewfinder.
I hope CiC will be a big support to you on the journey of discovery.

Unfortunately not from D & G ! I love the area and do spend quite a lot of time there, but home is a bit further up in South Lanarkshire.

Greetings to all here at Cambridge In Color. I use my simple photographs to illustrate my music videos. I saw the beautiful color photographs of Cambridge and thought, "Oh my, I'm sure I could learn something from these people!" I am first and foremost a musician and composer, but I love to take photos with my little Olympus FE-370. My name is Kathleen Shea Vick and I live here in Columbus, Ohio with my wonderful husband, Arthur.

A very warm welcome to you. As you write, although photography is something you do to complement your primary artistic work, being part of CiC will help you develop knowledge and skills to whatever level you choose. I hope you'll find that everyone on here is keen to help and support others.

Hi there my name is Jenny and I am from the beautiful city of Cape Town in South Africa. Photography is my hobby and I am currently doing a photographic course through The Photography Institute. I use a Canon 400D and have the kit lens, a Canon EF70-200 f/4L USM and a Canon EF100 f/2.8L Macro IS USM. I love to take photos of any and everything of interest! :)
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Jenny
A very warm welcome from the other side of the world (although warm is not the best word as it's just started snowing really heavily again).
I hope CiC can add to the knowledge your getting through your course. I hope you'll post up some of your images either for comment or in the competition threads and that you'll join in discussions and ask questions.

Hi, my name is Mark. I've been lurking for quite a long time now with the intention of committing to joining the forum. Well, I've now signed up and ready to join in. I'm a picture taker not a photographer, however, I purchased (very cheap on Ebay - in fact I was the only bidder) a Canon 450D with an EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens roughly 18months. Decided to take things a bit more seriously, stumbled upon CIC and started making full use of the excellent tutorials and now I'm here. My first love is still fishing and will drop everything to go and sit on a bank somewhere. I'm also a wheelchair user, see my avatar, that is me on a beach in Shetland.

Welcome, Mark. Delighted to see you've converted your lurking into full membership. Good to have you on board.
Shetland is quite something, isn't it?
Now that you're 'on the inside', I hope you post up some images and join in discussions. Please fire away with any questions to which you've not found answers in the tutorials.
