Re: New computer for photo editing
Manfred - point well taken about the 512 vs 256 GB drive. Thanks for the input. I will pass the suggestion on to my wife who will make the final decision. That way, if the laptop doesn't suit her - I will be out of the blame loop... She is doing a lot of research...

My little 11” MacBook Air finally gave out. Just ordered a Huawei Matebook x pro. It has amazing reviews. Limited availability in USA because of government ban. My daughter said to look into the product. She said her friends that do graphics were raving about it. Checked into it and made an order. The last thing I wanted to do was go to an electronic store and figure out which one to get. That can get your head to spin. Critics say the Huawei computer will spy on you and gather info for Ai developments. I have no illusions about privacy. We lost that a long time ago.

I have had one for some time. It works well and I prefer its 3:2 format screen compared to the 16:9 format that is more common these days. I reckon you will get the 2020 model, mine is probably 2018.

They probably do. Soon to be forgotten though... like the Clipper chip, the Echelon project or more recent things like the Snowden affair

Hello Odd. It’s a 2019 model. Only a small supply left. Amazon had 3 left. I don’t think there are any 2020 models available for sale in USA. I read the ban is expected to come to an end soon. Who knows. Regardless service is available for the product. I am excited. A step up for me. Regards, Daniel

You you buy macbook then it will will you a lot with editing videos. If you are looking for editing photos then I do not think you would need to spend so much money for a macbook. Go for a pc with ssd as a hard drive, as it is super fast. Buy a Nvedia graphics card and that is all.

Sorry, let me disagree. When it comes to video editing you want a multi-threaded processor and a compliant video card (both AMD and nVidia GPUs work fine). The problem with any laptop is that the number of cores available is quite small and they are not particularly good for video rendering. The same can be said for screen real estate; I will not edit video on a small screen, if at all possible; they are just too hard to work with.
I've used both Apple and PCs to edit video; the operating system doesn't matter unless you insist on using Final Cut Pro, which is Apple only.
