Re: Licentiate of The Society of International Nature & Wildlife Photographers
May I add my congratulations, Donald, to all the others here. I have especially appreciated your work, critiques, and advice to all here on CiC. Your recognition in this special way is well deserved.
Thanks, too, for all you do to keep CiC running smoothly, and so helpfully to so many.
Zen:p

Firstly a great achievement and congratulations.
I was intrigued by the "reprocessed after taking advice" bit. Care to expand on that?
Thanks.
Re: Licentiate of The Society of International Nature & Wildlife Photographers
I was part of the mentoring programme offered by the Society.
I had submitted this set, twice, to my mentor who gave me comments that there was nothing wrong with my camera-work, but he pointed out a number of changes that could be made to my post-processing that would improve the images. I applied these and, sure enough, he was absolutely spot-on. The images jumped of the paper.
That was how I found out how good it is to have a mentor; Who had changed my approach to post-processing.

Congratulations.
Although I have never considered any of your shots licentious.

Now that you have a degree, maybe you should pass on some of the mentoring. :)

I tend to agree with your post, Donald. An RPS qualification is only valid providing you keep on paying the annual subscription. To enter for a PAGB qualification it's stipulated that entrants must participate in club competitions. I belong to a club with affiliations, and with a view to first enter for a CPAGB qualification, because I don't participate in the club's competitions I was automatically barred.

I always try to provide a critical comment on any image that I post about. I think we have to point out what is good, but also where we think improvement may be required.
With a professional mentor, you are throwing your images into the arena and got to be prepared for some criticism that may hurt. That's why it's so good. Once you think about what they are saying you can see what the point is that they're getting at.
I wish we would get a lot more of that on here. It is such a strong way of learning. It's good because the critic may like or not like your picture, that's not the point, but is offering points to do with camera-craft and development of the image to improve it.

But in the mail was advise that I been awarded an Licentiate of The Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers.
Ok, it's the first rung on the ladder, but it's a rung.
My 20 images were judged by a panel of holders of the Fellowship.
So, I am feeling quite pleased with myself.
As you should! Congratulations Donald! Well done!
