I don't agree that the re-working of the image has lost the mood that was being sought. I think it is still there. Indeed, I think the re-work is a much stronger image - easier to look at and still retaining the atmosphere that you wanted to create.

It is easier to look at. Just not quite as much of the Bram Stoker feel.
