Re: Heads up ... PAD for October 2010 Starting in a week
I'm really looking forward to the PAD. Since I'm still learning I want to really consentrate on the basics.
Composition
Elements of design - rule of thirds, lines, symmetry, focal point, ect.
Depth of Field - cirlcles of confusion, aperture, shutter speed, focal length, ect.
Lighting - natural, flash, directional, low light, ect.
color - contrast, shadows, mood setting, black & white, ect.
I am hoping by the end of the month to be able to take a well composed picture, I believe that is the first step to becoming a good photographer.

I will participate but I will not be able to post until the 14th October. Maybe 15.th.
After this date I hope to be able to do it on a regular and daily basis.
I can participate, can't I ?
:)
Re: Heads up ... PAD for October 2010 Starting in a week
I'm in.
For many reasons, mostly building my photography business, I have not had time to shoot - sounds silly but I need to get the camera in my hands again.

Re: Heads up ... PAD for October 2010 Starting in a week
Okay, question! This means Posting every day, too??? I'm already on a picture a day for 365 day regimen but October is busier than Christmas, around here. What if I can't post, sometimes???
Really? May we do "everyday objects"? Because, it's secretly my very favorite thing to photograph! Do you guys mind that??? I mean it's not edgy pins and tacks..... ;}
Re: Heads up ... PAD for October 2010 Starting in a week
I'll try it as well – do I create my own thread or something?

Hi Katy,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, let's see if I can help here.
Yes, we try to post everyday, I think I missed one day and was scratching around in desparation at midnight on a couple of others when I did the PAD in July - have a look at the link in my signature below to see what I shot.
If you're doing a 365 anyway, you could 'cheat' and use those images here I guess ;)
- I am only kidding about that being cheating btw, since you'll have taken the photo on the day, that'll be fine.
Everyday objects are a good subject, we certainly don't mind, especially if lit interestingly - something to think about :)
Good luck,

Hi there,
No need for that, when the PAD starts in October, we'll start a daily thread each day, headed; Day 1, Day 2, etc. and everyone posts their images in there for that day.
Many also find it useful to keep all their own images in one places too. That way, one can link to that as many of us do from albums either here at CiC, or externally (mine is at PBase), see the link in my signature strip.
Could I ask for a first name please?
Time for me to give you the official; Welcome to the CiC forums from ....

Don't worry about it, Katy. If you get up in the morning during October and decide that it just isn't worth getting up, just take a quick snap of your tooth-mug or carpet slippers, post it here, the go back to bed for ten hours. I do it all the time.:)
Re: Heads up ... PAD for October 2010 Starting in a week
Hi folks,
Dave summed it up well in the last 2 posts (thanks Dave).
In reality, it's an exercise I created to help people improve their photography, as any regular exercise does. And I think the general consensus was that it achieved this objective last time we ran it.
So my feeling are - one one hand - we're not the "PAD police" and we're not going to be running around issuing infringement notices to anyone who joins and doesn't manage to post every day ... but on the other hand, I'd like those who decide to join to think of it as a committment that they've made and thus make an effort to push themselves; after all, it's for YOUR benefit.
If it takes "blood, sweat, and tears", and all we get are the "tears" then I may have to consider pointing at the offender with a finger and uttering "tut tut"! (which by the way would probably be the severest telling off ever issues by CiC!).
So step up to the plate - no excuses - this is what you've been training for ... MAKE US PROUD
(and yes, yes, I know it's tough ... I get short on time too ... but when the going gets tough, the tough get going) (and I might just throw in a photography book or two for whoever does the best (and complete) job :)).

Yeah, but the thing is Colin wasn't stupid, the last time I checked (?) so he must seriously think that CiC people are corruptible!:)

Re: Heads up ... PAD for October 2010 Starting in a week
Truth be known ...
... I have quite a few books that I don't need anymore now that I have Kindle editions to read on my iPad + iPhone + PC.
Re: Heads up ... PAD for October 2010 Starting in a week
I think that I will commit because I need to get over my perfectionistic bent. I just need to post photos and get over it! I will, also, take Rob's encouragement - he may not realize it but it's great reverse psychology. I've found that, even if I don't feel like it, after I get the camera in my hand, I start having fun and learning. Whereas, if I put pressure on myself, I wilt and can't do a thing. I, also, have some really edgey moose slippers that I can snap away at - in some lovely atmospheric light.... AND, I'LL take those Laura Ashley cushions, thanks!

Besides, yesterday, when we were having that great discussion about exposure and metering and learning, etc., I was sneezing my fuddied head off. I realized that I had let the sun go down and hadn't taken my photo for the day. I grabbed my camera and took this photo. NOW, if I didn't have my camera in hand, I would NEVER have gotten proof that UFOs really DO exist.
