Great images, Dan! Thanks for sharing such beautiful shots from this part of the world. Cheers,
A beautiful place and very nice images Dan :)
Wow! My wife and I will head up there sometime soon hoping for this kind of weather. :)
Dan,
These are wonderful photos. I'm envious of the location, but also it seems like you were having a great time combining fishing, awesome views, photography, yummy food and wonderful company. That ticks a lot of the "how to enjoy life" boxes. Envious of that as much as the views :)
Wow, that was an awesome series of exciting images. Just stunning scenery and I love the true "wilderness" feeling. All of those images look like the kind of place I would like to go to by myself and just putz around for an entire day. Just looking at these shots gave me a sense of peace and wonder. Thanks, Dan!
Glad you guys enjoyed the post.
Trace, "the grass is always greener". We love Oz and would spend a lot more time there were it not for having a dog. Your govt makes it too difficult to bring her along or we'd spend a couple of winters between Oz and NZ. The topography and summer weather of South Island, NZ is very similar to AK.
Matthew, these areas are indeed fairly remote. 40 to 60 miles by boat from the nearest roads. And the same distance from any sort of facilities/supplies. It warrants a bit of caution with one's activities considering any help, assuming you can contact someone, is hours away. We prepare and head out with the mindset that we are on our own. This time of year kicking around "an entire day" will wear you out. There's enough light to shoot 18-20 hrs a day if desired.
Great shots, Dan. Thanks for torturing us "lower 48'ers". Heck, photography is easy for anybody living in Alaska! LOL! Just kidding. That's just the envy in me coming out. I did a "tourist" trip to Anchorage, Talkeetna, Fairbanks, Denali and Seward in 2014. First trip, and I made a promise to myself, it will definitely not be my last. The photographer part of my brain was just about to explode during my trip. Everywhere I turned, I saw a good shot. I do envy you living there but only during this part of the year. I don't do cold/snow very well. NICE fish btw. That's a giant yelloweye. Never caught one that big when I lived in CA. You can't keep them now and you can't fish in the depths they live in. Keep posting more great shots like that. I kinda like the torture. :-)
