Day 09: July 2010 Photo-a-Day Thread

This was the other shot I did today - same time and same flower, but different arrangement. This was the whole plant before I cut off (with a certain person's permission) one flower to do this one here

Great shot! I love the reflection on the black surface. What is the material the flower is reflected in? I love the second shot as well...

Rose in B&W. I played with this in Topaz Adjust 3 and then turned it into B&W using PS CS3 and adjusting the red channel. I don't know if it works or not but, it is different... It almost looks like infra red. Tomorrow I will shoot some in IR to see the differences...

BTW - the bottom of this image was cut off until I edited the post, skipped a couple of lines and entered some text. Is this my computer that is playing tricks on me??? I see a lot of images with a bit cut off the bottoms and a lot of quoted replies which just show the image and not the reply itself...

Hi Richard,

In my opinion, absolutely, I have never had an image cut-off and see all your posts complete with the extra blank lines plus "last line" and I suspect80-90% of others do too.

I would normally blame Internet Explorer at this point, but I made a point of trying one of your posts in that (I usually use FF) and it still did not cut anything off.

This prompts the questions;
What browser? (exactly; e.g. for IE mine says 8.0.6001.18928) "Help" and "About ..." to see this
and what operating system? (e.g. Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2) "Computer" right click "Propertirs" from Start button to see this.

I'd send that info to Sean (McQ) in a PM as I know he's most likely to know of any issues.

I know I blew the centre :( (and didn't discover until 5 hours later when too dark.

Not a weed, as promised to Wendy in yesterday's thread; but a pansy from a hanging basket, about the only thing with any sun on by the time I got out tonight - hence the low angle.

You are (how should I say this) very supportive to me all the time. I've been thinking about studying photography but I really doubt whether I should aim my chances to it, since a decent job after studying engineering would give me a lot more of a secure job. And besides that, Photography is a private study in Holland, which means you don't get any of the government's financial support for studying.
Well anyway, Thank you for your reply and I'll hang in here for a photo a day at least for all July.

You are quite right - and I shouldn't really put ideas in your head. It's obvious that these days you need to take the most sensible and practical route to getting a decent job. Engineering sounds such a route, and I'm sure it can be a very interesting and rewarding career. You can always study photography as well, or at a later date. Getting a paid job in photography these days must be on a par with getting a holiday home on the far side of the moon.

I've been working on a series of sunsets, all taken from the same basic area to make a series showing the sun's travels throughout the year. Every time I go out, i am accompanied by at least 2 and sometimes as many as 5 cats. They aren't my most favored assistants in this photographic endeavor, but sometimes they come in handy.
