The light from the side was from the early sunlight, but flash is a great idea! They really don't have many predators, and aren't afraid of much. When you leave both eyes open, try not to focus on your off eye, its a secondary reference and can be confusing at times. You may get a little double vision some times with both eyes open. Close your off eye for a second and reopen it. The double vision will go away with some practice. Also try to hold the eye piece a little further away from your eye than normal, don't touch your eye with the eye piece. It might sound weird, and may not work for you but thats kinda how it works for me... Also if you can raise the illumination level on the spot on your view finder, that may help too.
Like everyone else I fail a lot. Not to worry, It's free! Imagine if we had to process film still. We've got it made.

Thanks for the extra help...It is kinda hard to put the eye piece too close to the viewfinder so I am OK... I am getting used to it by now though I still have a lot of fails from yesterday. I will be trying again in the morning when they come...I am one who push myself to the limits until I get it but many times I just want to watch them and their ways. I am still not into flash and should have since the place where I moved the feeders are now in constant shadows...so I just increased either SS, Aperture or ISO...I will imitate your 1/250 speed tomorrow and see how I go...Thanks again...you got this brilliant shot I want to be able to get...
