Izzie, you have done a good job on the No 2 edit but I'm not a fan of No 3 edit. For me it's just too centralised and 'cliche' and it's also lost the warmth of the original one.

Izzie, I love flowers and have made numerous attempts on my roses but
never on the magnolia. I appreciate your post and I will bookmark it for when mine comes into bloom.
I like the simplicity of # 3 the colors are very similar to mine. Well done.
I've had a quick edit with the magnolia close up, Izzie, to add in a bit of texture to the blown out spots and slightly tweaked a few other brighter areas. Edited with layers, masks and variations to opacity/colour blend modes of the layers.

Nicely done, Geoff...a lot of work you did here to make truly acceptable...I love it...
I was thinking this morning about this magnolia so I went outside to take another shot..I entitled it "thinking of composition" because I was doing some contortionist stance just trying to get the stem at the side of the frame...I still like your edit though...this one barely have any edits at all...

Once you start to understand editing flowers it does get a lot quicker. Only about 5 minutes on the magnolia. Things like using a selection around a problem to constrain any clone effect to the desired area can save a lot of time.
Your latest bloom has some very good colour.
As a neophyte in the digital age I am not very qualified to critique but i like #2, #1 seems a little busy for my taste but still pretty.:o
Hi Izzie, I like your edits that you did but I really like your last image here. The colouring and the
texture on the petals looks good.
I go for #3 as well. It has the right combination of a well-defined subject with a not-too-intrusive background.

Thanks Geoff, I did not try any editing on this last one, just the usual Content Aware removal of the bright sky peering on the left side, and when I saw your hint about cloning a petal to add texture, I did that to my purple rose...I did not think of using a selection to contain it...thanks for the hints. I am practicing on it on every turn I have a break and can go to my computer....
Thank you for your comment and critique, Sherwood -- appreciated it.
Thanks Rita...those are natural colours, no editing involved in the flower at all. I was thinking more of my composition as I should from now on instead of just clicking that shutter... which I am apt to do most times than not...:D Now you know why I hurt at my side yesterday...It will either be that shot or the tulips and duff!odil I was trying to photograph yesterday afternoon...:p
You are turning out some good flower images here Izzie, I like:)
Thanks, Grahame...flowers are out of my league but I am trying...thanks to you all folks who has helped me so far with my shots...I appreciate your comments. Well received in this household...too...
