You want the main elements to stand out. At the moment proportionally the not so important ones do and is sort of suffocating the bird and spray - if that makes sense...

not qualified to add anything from a technical point, I agree the last edit looks better but that simply means that for me it went from a fantastic image to a really fantastic image :)
