Wow, so many awesome shots in this thread now. Hopefully it's sunny tomorrow so I can maybe post one of my own.

Loved the lush colours in this one. Shot two days ago in Swansea Botanic gardens. Used a macro lens!

Shot several images but thought they all seemed a bit soft. Canon 24-105 lens; F14; 1/100; ISO 200; on a tripod. Maybe I should have used a wider aperture and possibly a slightly faster shutter speed, although the static objects also appear to lack sharpness.
I may try again next time I pass that tree.
ps. A better sky would also help.
I have a 24-105, it's a great lens, but it isn't cheap. I got mine used for £500, but I see they are going new at the moment for around £950. Quite often it's included as a package on new Canons, and it would be well worth getting one. Haven't noticed any sharpness issues, it's generally on the button. As you say, perhaps a faster shutter. Nice tree - it would also look good at sunset, I think.
I bought my lens before the VAT increased and paid around £800. In a direct comparison with my old 28-135; I found the cheaper lens was actually a fraction sharper at the centre although that fell off towards the edges while the 24-105 held it's sharpness all the way. And it copes better with extremes of contrast, plus of course, it is a much stronger build.
Unfortunately, a sunset isn't possible as that is the only achievable angle, through a barbed wire topped sheep fence, and facing north! But perhaps some dark stormy clouds one day.
Corsican pines
Corsican pine trees at Pembrey forest, West Wales. I use Vasoline on the UV filter, and some post-processing in CS4 to achieve the effect.

Got posturised somehow :( Not that you can tell
Rob, superb image. I love it. The off set border and the deep drop shadow are perfect for this image.Quote:

Oh and good look with explaining the vaseline if you are ever stopped and searched under Section 44.
