If it were something that was applied to the RAW capture then it wouldn't be able to be ignored by PP software.
To be honest, something that camera manufacturers don't tell you is that potential increases in signal-to-noise ratios are offset by the inherant increase in noise due to higher pixel densities - and yet - on latest generation cameras they STILL come up with higher ISO modes - so "how do they do it" ... the answer they don't want you to hear is that it's mostly done with more agressive de-noising available on say, Digic IV -v- Digic III - which only applies to JPEGs. So many people shooting RAW at high ISO are scratching their heads wondering why their high-ISO shots are so noise compared to the sample shots they're seeing on the web.
