Probably the main thing is that they tend to be smaller. Also likely an outdated prejudice developed back in the days when no one neutered male dogs. Intact males tend to fight more and given the opportunity disappear for days at a time following the call of nature. Also intact males ...... are less dainty around the house :)Quote:

Our (my) first dog here in the US is a girl German Shepherd. We adopted her from the rescue because our youngest son wanted a dog and had chosen her. Hubby and I didn't have a say in it. She was an ex-druggie dog from an ex-bf of Janet Jackson who went to jail. Hence, the name JJ. She passed away 5 years ago, at 16 years of age. I prefer a boy dog, a Rottweiler particularly. That was Cooper. He died of Canine Renal Failure when he was nearly just touching 9 months old. She was small version of a Rottie. Very, very intelligent for his age... 'Picked up Tucker in Texas for distraught hubby, another boy dog. Then sonny boy came home from North Dakota with two dogs in tow, a girl blue heeler and a boy Corgi. Cooper and Tucker were my choice. I like male dogs. I have no idea why. Hubby is the victim here - he has to accept the family's choices, not his. He likes girl dogs. But we are happy with Tucker.Quote:

Izzie, having been around dogs all my life, the only conclusions I've reached about them is that, much like people, they are all individuals with their own personalities. There are definately breed traits/tendencies but no guarantees on behaviors. I've never heard the gender related preference that you mentioned. -
