While I get what you are saying about control and one's own Website that wouldn't replace the function of flickr for me. I have a lot of contacts and I simply wouldn't have time to visit everybodies own website or they mine. There's a very strong, supportive social spirit and sharing of ideas and concepts at Flickr..certainly among my contacts
I have found the photo groups one of the best features of flickr. Trouble is they come and go as are often linked to specific cameras.
:) Maybe you should start one called DaisyMae'sMates. Doesn't matter what it's called really but it does seem to be the best way to group people together with similar interests.
The other way is Yahoo Groups. Any one can start a group. Membership can be moderated. They sure have changed these. However the photo aspect is not too bad if you can find them. The usual way is to always post a link to one that you are referring too. One of my better attempts at microscope photography. There are also some awful ones. Any other shot will have been via a compact.

It wouldn't surprise me if flickr finished up being broadly similar.
:( They have done it again. The link should to take you to Leguminosae not a slide show! In the past they provided permalinks as stuff on Yahoo moves around all of the time.
Maybe just maybe this one will work

Although I've had several frontpages and have a lot of people fave my stuff - check out the stats on this, one of the neatest features for me has always been the ability to search an area by tags - great way to find good places to shoot. Example: I want to find interesting locations for ND110 ruins shots Regardless of all the changes I still think Flickr is awesome :)

Thanks John and Johan...lots of good info there.Share codes re-appeared in the middle of the night so that's a start.
I love Flickr...just a shame that they seem hell bent on changing things every five minutes without ensuring they have the basics covered.

Yeah, they're not the only site that does unannounced changes. Drives me nuts, so I made my own. But then I suppose it's all 'progress'... but meh, progress is overrated sometimes :)
Re: OOOPS..they did it again! ..check your flickr acct.
:D I think it might be down to the growth in the number of people who choose something associated with software as a career and the number permanently employed my some companies - they must have something to do. Ebay is the worst in my view. Why can't I search what I want precisely - cause I might see something else I might buy - fat chance. I bought some copper yesterday so afterwards it told me I might want to buy a spanner. Seems others did. The problem is just how to use advertising on the internet. No idea how but there must be money in it.
Being fair though change is the name of the game in all areas these days. I just looked at a share quote on Yahoo. If correct 52 week low $16 and same high $37. They seem to be climbing. In the crazy world we live in the reason for that may be the fact they they are changing.
As far as flickr is concerned I'm reminded of the Hewlett Packard back to the shed advert. Companies loose their way. In Flickr's case it means doing what they set out to do and being the best but that might not make the share prices go up. Might encourage more punters to join up though. At the moment I detect a bit of "me too" Facebook.

For second guessing what my next purchase might be based on my previous purchases my prize would go to Amazon for the most improbable suggestions. They must have a most interesting view of me indeed! :)

:) The funniest advertising for me is on facebook. The most hopelessly targeted stuff imaginable - just dreadful.
