Re: The "Eye" of a photographer
IMO, a great example of seeing things differently are Sharon's (Daisy Mae) wonderful images. I never see things like she does yet, I open each of her postings with anticipation and have never been disappointed...
I think that some people are gifted with a certain way of seeing things and registering the thoughts.
An interesting study was done (unfortunately, I don't have the link) of the different physical ways artists and scientists look at images. The scientist hones in on the important point in the image to the exclusion of the other parts while the artists eye wanders all over the image.
Another thing that I wonder about is some people's incapability of remembering the punch line of a joke or how the punch line is worked up to. My wife is totally incapable of remembering a joke in order to retell it. She also misses the punch lines of many jokes,
My wife loves music, especially vocals. I have a tin ear and therefore don't like most music. I do however, really enjoy bagpipes which proves that even a tin ear can be broken...
Additionally, however many of our capabilities are self enforced according to our interests. My wife is a retired RN who can state the Latin names of every body part, remembers every medication by its scientific name and can remember causes and effects of most diseases. However if she needs a pair of wire cutters for some project, she is most likely going to ask for "one of those pliers things".
Then again, training and experience also goes a long way in honing our skills. Both my wife and I write fairly well but, in different ways. I being a product of the military normally use an active form of a verb. Such as; "I moved the table". My wife will use the passive for of a verb both in speech and writing such as, "The table was moved"...
