Re: Computer for Photo Editing
Most of this post advice is sound although not all agree exactly. With some experience building my own PC's I have found that the gamers' PC choices to be very good for Adobe CS5 etc. I have found buying a gamers last build effective and cheaper as some here change 3-4 times per year. I do not want to change my work PC that often for sure it is hard enough dealing with thousands of pics without learning and practising on new tools that often. Buying from established shops selling consignments with a service warranty for a reasonable time period you can get almost new machines and even screens ( I have seen multiple 27", 32" even 36" setups that seem to me for playing kids games) for bargain prices. Most I have seen here go overboard on cooling and RAM but they both help long term. They buy their parts from- Fry's, NewEgg or Tiger Direct online ( Fry's does have retail buildings.) These gamers I am used to dealing with are not kids they are 30 and up and buy their own and take care of what they have. I do not buy Dell and I live in Austin the home of Mr and Mrs Dell but after too many warranty issues and non-standard parts I just use other brands. Now with the buy-back or buy-out issues with the Dell, Inc stock deal, also not sure about future. Also see if you can find a shoop that knows how to color calibrate any monitor you purchase, some are more adjustable than others. There are multiple articles about this subject in here and other sites. I deal with backing up on external drives and do not see the need in my shop for huge HDDs in the machine. USB 3 will help. None of the laptops I have had Dells and ASUS and H-P etc have never done a good job of rendering my photos while I can predict what my PC's output will print. Even the teen's gaming laptop does not render well enough because his game can be close but the Bride or Quinceanera family do not want close they want spot on.
