Re: Rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike
Great shot; that's a male Western Diamondback, if you didn't know already.
The behavior you saw near the end where it was coming towards you was not aggressive - they will still try to get to where they 'feel' safe, even if that is on the other side of a threat. Though it was in a defensive position, you were not in danger at the distance you were shooting from.
Let me know if you have any questions about him.
Re: Rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike
Welcome to CiC, molossus! It's great that you chose "my" rattlesnake as the subject of your first post.
I didn't know whether the snake was a male or a female. Did you determine that by the shape of the rattles? I understand that that is one indicator but it's a nuance that I'm not capable of detecting.
You might want to edit your profile to display your general location and at least your first name at the left side of your posts, as that will be helpful to both you and all of the other participants.
Re: Rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike
That is an impressive take and the processing brings it out very well.
Reminds me why cowboys were thick long boots. :)
