I am continuing with my theme of black and white. With this photo I cloned out the thick black electrical wire and cropped the photo to remove some of the very dark foliage on the right. I then experimented again with the black and white using channel mixer and the curves (Thanks Geoff :). For the 1st picture I used R-30 G-60 B-10 and adjusted with curves and for the 2nd picture I used R200 G-50 B-50. I think this creates a much more dramatic picture and from this I can make the decision about what I want to say in this picture.

Well done, Julia. That is exactly what deciding to work in B & W gives you - the choice to be creative in making the image that you see in your head when you capture the photograph. You can decide how you wish the various colour tones to appear to convey what you want to say.
That is the basic concept of B & W and you have now demonstrated your understanding of that. With that concept understood, the rest becomes much easier.
