Heron against reflected sunset.

Note the mosquitos glinting in the sunlight!
The dark reflections are from a bridge in the background above.

Hi Dave,
Just wondering if you'd given any thought to blatting some of those small spots in the water, and lifting the levels a touch with a curve? (and possibly a gentle sharpen?)
Re: Canon -v- Nikon -v- Others: TEAM CHALLENGE - Month ending 31th May 2009
Hi Colin,
I did blat some spots, which pic are you thinkng of in particular?
Both had levels tweaks, but not 'curved' I admit ;)
They have also both had a gentle sharpen (at final resolution posted to PBase), but obviously too gentle!
I don't like seeing the black and white ridges around things
I haven't sorted my Nikon workflow yet, I am finding I like Nikon's Transfer and ViewNX, it considerably streamlines what I did before ACR+Elements.
Unfortunately ACR5.3 doesn't know about the D5000, so I can't use it anymore (at least until they catch up with 5.4).
So these went nef - tif (8 bit) - PSE6 - jpg.
If you know how to get ACR (without PS CS3/4) to open a tif, let me know.
BTW, I was amazed what you did in 30 secs with that squirrel.
Cheers,

The latest one. I have it a quick tweak - might have over-done it a touch (not sure what the bird is supposed to look like, and the image is very low-res)

I just gave it two applications of 250 / 0.2 / 0 USM and brought the shadows up a little (and killed a few spots).

If your shooting RAW you should be able to convert to DNG and "proceed as per normal" (which is my preferred route anyway - vastly streamlines the transfer and renaming process - and gets rid of pesky sidecar files).

Thanks - not hard though - just a case of knowing what sharpening settings to use. I probably mislead a little there - I think I spent an additional 15 seconds rolling back the sharpening on a few bits that were previously over-sharpened!

Looks as if you had some fun Peter; is this your daughter? (looks a good match for my grand-daughter and am slightly jealous as I was out-of-commission for the snow this year)

Chris,
You flatter me, the 'Junior' only relates to my status here, this is actually my granddaughter, Maya, seeing snow for the first time. I was 'working' from home that day.

Team Nikon - getting a bit unbalanced aren't we? This really is Nikon after previous 'own goal':)http://www.pbase.com/crisscross/imag...7/original.jpg

Team Nikon from same studio (huh) session; not sure if I prefer this statesman pose or the previous one giving the alarm call hence technically flawed from slight movement, partially corrected with FocusMagic

OK Peter, only you are still 'junior' if you pretend to work (unless you refuse to retire); I gave up the pretence about 4 years ago. I am afraid grandchild pics are off limits, but can give you a gallery password code if you stick around here for a bit.

Colin please tell me if I have understood correctly what you want when you look at this image.
I was bended looking through the camera trying to get a shot of the road when this young fellow stood in front of me looking the way you can see.
I took the opportunity and bang !:)
Is this kind of pictures you were expecting ?
Re: Canon -v- Nikon -v- Others: TEAM CHALLENGE - Month ending 31th May 2009
Or is it more this kind of moments ?
